INTRODUCTION
Employability skills are important abilities which are involved personal qualities and
values that allow thriving in new workplace. It involves good communication, leadership,
adaptability, dependability, team work, emotional control, motivation etc. Employee build their
employability skills through involving in paid work, volunteering, sport and other group
activities. These skills are building block of career and success to employees (Jackson, 2014).
The employability skills are essential for getting along with and working well with other person,
being reliable and dependable and willingness to learn new abilities in the workplace. This study
is based on Travelodge hotel. It is travel and tourism company in hospitality industry. This report
will develop responsibilities and performance objectives as well as evaluate its effectiveness. It
will make recommendation for improving the performance and review motivational techniques.
Furthermore, study will also develop solutions to work based problems and variety of
communication style at different levels in hotel. It will identify effective time management
strategies in terms of work based experience in the firm. Moreover, report will explain different
roles of people for team work at the firm. It will analysis team dynamic and suggests alternative
ways to achieve goals.
TASK 1
1. Develop set of own responsibilities and performance objective
I am working as human resource manager in the Travelodge. Therefore, I will develop
my responsibilities such as direct and indirect relationship, decision making processes and skills,
ability to learn, employment rights and responsibilities etc. My performance objectives is to
manage workforce and resources in the workplace.
Personal Responsibility: I will develop my personal responsibilities such as build direct
and indirect relationship with employees, making decisions and abilities as well as ability to
learn in the Travelodge. I will consider different employment legislation and make decisions
relating to customer services, health and safety, anti-discrimination and duties, ethics. I will
evolve ability to learn and different skills such as communication, leadership, interpersonal,
problem solving skill that are essential for working in team at the hotel. My responsibility is to
build relationship, effective communication, conflict resolution and taking care of employee
rights in the hotel. My responsibility is to define mission and vision of firm, identify legal duties
and other skills. I will manage my time for completing work or activity in the workplace. I will

also communicate with my staff and supervisors that will help to completing my task and fulfil
my responsibilities in the workplace. With communication, I will build relationship with my staff
and superiors in the firm.
Performance Objectives: I will develop my all responsibilities and skills for improving
my performance objectives. My execution aim is to maintain the employee retention rate in the
Travelodge. For that, I will set and monitor performance objectives of my employees, so that
they are effectively working in firm. I will determine different sources such as professional
standard, organizational goals, performance appraisal etc. I will identify and assess different
ways such as employee performance, utilization of resources for achieving organizational aim
and objectives. I will develop many professional standards, develop my strength and improve my
weakness as well as create chances to achieve my performance objective in the organization.
Through it, I will complete my job role and responsibility, achieve my personal and professional
goals.
2. Effectiveness against defined objective
I will improve effectiveness of defined objectives for effective working in the
Travelodge. For that, I will utilize different formal review system such as appraisal, peer review,
supervision, personal review in terms of strengths and weakness. This can help to increase
effectiveness of defined objective in the organization. I will set and monitor performance
objectives that aid to raise effectiveness of my execution. I will take review from peer, develop
strength and improve weakness for effectiveness of performance objectives. In this context, I
will follow different performance appraisal systems such as 360 degree feedback, paired
comparison, rating scale for improving performance of employee in the Travelodge.
In this context, I will develop strength, abilities and competencies for achieving the
performance purpose in the organization. I will improve communication skills, build direct and
indirect relationship with employees, leadership ability, learning skills that help to accomplish
and increase the effectiveness of performance objective. I will take review from peer and
supervisor about performance of employees in relation to effective work in the organization.
Therefore, I will complete my responsibilities and job roles, legal duties for accomplish my
performance and increase effectiveness of my objective in the Travelodge. In relation to, I will
make effort to supervise and lead team for achieving organizational objectives and goals.

Therefore, I will also take review on daily basis from supervisor and team leader for
improving performance of employee in the firm. I will improve my weakness such as lack of
confidence, leadership and conflict resolution skills, so that I will try to improve and develop my
all weaknesses for accomplishing the performance objectives. Also, I will try to increase
effectiveness of objectives of performance in the firm.

3. Make recommendation for improvement
It is necessary to improve all weaknesses and increase effectiveness, so that, I must have
followed different training and development methods such as coaching, mentoring, changing
working style, training need assessment, changing the environment etc. in terms of improving
performance of my employees in the Travelodge. However, workers can provide product and
services to customer in the firm (Rao, 2014). In this context, I will effectively coach and lead to
employees, so that, they can effectively work on team and achieve the team goals. I will give
better training and development through mentoring and coaching for developing skills and
capabilities to workers in the organization.

I will develop my confidence skill for attending the training sessions, make own
decisions and managing my time as well as completing task on time. Also, my decision making
skills, so that I will take advice from my superiors. In this context, I will try to change working
style, environment, effective communication and build relationship for improving presentation in
the workplace. I will give particular task for each and every employee in particular time period.
By this way, I will identify the ability and competency for execution of employees. Then, I will
give appropriate training and development to improve and develop weak skills and capabilities
that will help to worker in terms of effective perform task. Therefore, I will follow process of
training need assessment for improving the presentation to worker in the hotel in relation to
provide the effective services to consumers in the workplace.
In relation to that, I will try to change the environment and culture of working in the
organization. I will ensure that workers are performing better and effectively through develop
their skills and capabilities. In relation to that, I will give effective training, development as well
as organizing different management programs and events, so that employees build their relation
with other worker and developing knowledge for improve performance in the workplace.
4. Review motivational techniques
Human resource manager always ensure about performance of employees in the
organization. Therefore, they follow different techniques for raise motivation and improve
performance in the Travelodge. Techniques involves create positive working environment,
giving the incentives, sharing the profits, giving benefits etc. Also, HR manager need to take
review of all motivation techniques in the workplace.
Providing incentives: HR manager requires providing incentives according to
employees performance for increasing motivation. Therefore, they create and implement polices
for incentives to every worker or team incentives for motivating employees as team (Collet, Hine
and du Plessis, 2015). There are two types of incentives such as financial and non financial
which involves gifts, cash prizes, extra holidays, choice office space etc. that can increase
motivation of employees. If the HR officer do not provide appropriate incentives, so that
negatively impact on motivation and satisfaction level of employees. Therefore, they need to
give some financial incentives which help to increase motivation and level of satisfaction
positively of employees in the workplace.

Encourage Collaboration: Individual motivation can be very strong technique of
motivating worker. Therefore, HR manager needs to set up team building exercises so that
people to get to know each other. This can be improve abilities to work with each other during
tasks. Also, they make healthy environment between people that increase motivation and sure to
encourage collaboration between employees in the Travelodge. If HR officer do not try for
encourage the collaboration among workers that impact negatively on employees' performance
such as demotivation, dissatisfaction etc. in the workplace. But in contrast, human resource
officer regular tries to promote cooperation between workers, so that it impact positively on
employee's performance and their motivation in the business.
Maslow need hierarchy theory: It is theory of motivation that involves different needs
of people such as physiological, safety, social, esteem and self actualization. Physiological needs
includes food, shelter and clothing that are required for human survival. Safety involve security,
law, order and freedom (Mishra, 2014). Belongingness include friendship, interpersonal
relationship, trust and acceptance etc. Esteem wants involve dignity, achievement etc. Self
actualization includes self -fulfilment, personal growth. Through this approach, HR manager
make efforts to increase motivation and improve quality of performance to employees in the
workplace. The negative impact of this theory is to assume that all employees experience these
wants in similar order and failing to identify cultural and individual difference. The positive
impact of this theory is to improve performance, behaviour and increase motivation in the
workplace.
TASK 2
2.1 Develop solution of work-based problems
There are many problems of work-based such as labour turnover, demotivation, low job
satisfaction, interpersonal conflicts, low wages or benefits, extend working hours, lack of
promotion and so on that are faced by HR manager in the Travelodge. Therefore, they make
efforts to identify the issues and develop solution for it. HR manager develop some solutions
such as:
Lack of motivation: There are high level of demotivation of employees on the
workplace. Therefore, HR officer give training and development for solving work-based
problems relating to low job satisfaction, lack of motivation and labour turnover (Deeley, 2014).
Therefore, human resource manager give appropriate and extensive training and development to

employees for increasing their motivation, develop skills and knowledge, capabilities and job
satisfaction in the workplace. In this context, HR manager follow different methods such as
coaching, mentoring, conferences and meetings that can help to employee for developing
knowledge and abilities for effective working in the organization.
Low wages and benefits: Company gives very low wages and benefits of employees.
Therefore, HR officer need to provide the appropriate salary and wages for solution of work-
based problem that is low wages and salary as well as other incentives. Therefore, human
resource manager need to ensure that providing incentives and benefits to employees. This can
help to employee for increase motivation and improve performance in the Travelodge. Also, they
give both financial and non-financial incentives such as extra holidays, gifts, cash prize etc. to
employees in the workplace. HR manager also consider addressing issues relating wages and
salary as well as ask to employees of reasons (Cottrell, 2015). Thus, it is necessary to check and
stay update for salary and wages of workers in the workplace.
2.2 Communicate solution of problem in different style at various level
There are many communications methods such as formal letter, memo, e-mail etc. at
different level of management in the Travelodge. Therefore, HR manager write formal letter to
senior management and memo to work relating to solution of work-based problem at the firm.
Formal letter:
It is type of letter which can be utilised by middle level of management for
communicating with top level administrative in the business. With this, they are discussed
different work-based problems and develop solutions in the firm.
Memo:
It is kind of short note which can be used by senior level management for communicating
with staff and employees of all departments in the firm. With this, they also given information
about work-based problems and developing solutions of problems.

Therefore, human resource manager follow all strategies of effective management of time in the

Set Priorities: It requires set priorities for managing time effectively by employees for
completing task. It is necessary to identify difference between important and urgent work after
that setting priorities in work (Asonitou, 2015). This can aid to manage time for completing task
on time.
Utilise planning tool: It is necessary to use planning tool to manage time and improve
productivity in the workplace. This tool involves electronic planners, computer program, index
chart and notebooks. Employees needs to write down task and schedules in their mind to direct
on priorities. It is also necessary to take review of planning tool by employees to manage time in
the workplace.
Get Organized: Human resource manager needs to get organized different training and
development for effective management of time by employees (Harman, Jia and Zhang, 2015).
HR manager also assign some task and activities with their employees and subordinates to
manage their time in the Travelodge.
Schedule time appropriately: It is also creating time commitment by employees as well

3.1 Different role of people in team work
A group of people who are working together that is called as team. Team work is most
important in the workplace in relation to completing the task easily, solving complex problems,
exchanging the creative ideas and thoughts between team members. This help to achieve
common goals of team and competitive advantages.

There are many roles of people when they are working together such as leader, problem
solver, facilitators, evaluators etc. In this context, HR follow Belbin team role theory for
determine different roles of people for working in team.
Resource Investigator: This person utilises speculative nature to discover thoughts to
bring back to team. Resource investigator are good at exploring and reporting back on
development or resources outside the team (Kozlowski and et.al., 2015).. They are good
communicating with people both inside and outside the Travelodge.
Team Worker: This person aid to team to gel, utilising their skillfulness to determine the
work required and complete it on behalf of team. Team workers are most supportive members of
team. They have great capability for flexibility and adaptability to various situations and people
in the Travelodge.
Co-ordinator: This person is needed to concentrate on objective of team and draw out
team members and delegate work suitability. The different characteristics of Co-ordinator is their
ability to reason others to work towards shared objectives (Belbin Team Role, 2019). They must
have mature, trusting and confident and readily delegate.
Shaper: This person gives important drive to ensure that team keeps moving and does
not lose concentration. Sharper has drive and courage to overcome obstacles. They are highly

motivated with a lot of troubled energy and require for accomplishment. Sharper drives force or
engine of team.
Implementer: This person create plan workable strategy and carry it out as efficiently.
Implementer has practical common sense and great deal of self control and discipline. They have
highly reliability and capabilities for application, so that they are useful to company.
Implementers favour hard work and handle difficulties in systematic ways.
3.2 Team dynamic
Team dynamic are invisible forces that operates among different people in team. Leaders
can have powerful impact on team behaviour and performance. It can be identified by assessing
forces that effect team behaviour such as personality styles, team roles, tool, technology, culture
of workplace and processes or methods (Kozlowski, 2015). Therefore, HR manager needs
follow Tuckman team development theory for improving team behaviour and performance in the
Travelodge.
Tuckman Team Development Theory:
There are four stages such as forming, storming, norming and performing that can help to
build team and achieve its goals.
Forming: It is initial stage of team development during which single person have not
groomed together. Everybody is engaged to find out their place in team. The firs offer suggestion
on beginning new team while help to take over existing team (Ahmad and et.al., 2016). In this
context, they look to team leader for guidance. People do not know the objective of entire team.
Storming: The team begins to assess task from suggesting ideas. There are many ideas
which create complexity and breaking up relations between team members. This can result in
some loss of performance and attention on the task in the team. The team leaders have guiding
role in this difficult transition stages.
Norming: This stage where team members begin to come together, evolving procedures,
setting ground rules, clarifying and discussing with each other. Norming step is featured through
growing sense of togetherness.
Performing: It is final step where raised on both activity and team relationship that
combine to give synergy. Performance is delivered through members working effectively
together. In this stage, every member is highly contributed in completing task or activity.

3.3 Alternative way to complete task and achieve goal of team
There are many alternative ways to complete tasks and achieve team goals which are
followed by teams and leaders in the workplace (Jackson, 2014). Therefore, leaders adopt
different styles like autocratic, participative, laissez-faire, paternalistic, job rotation, extrinsic
etc. for achieving team goals.
Job rotation: It is alternative way to achieve goals of team which means rotate employee
to one job to another job within the company. It is also known as job enlargement to employees
in the workplace.
Extrinsic rewards: It is tangible and visible rewards given to employees for achieve
their needs. It involves salary, bonus and wages. This help to achieve effective team goals and
objectives of employees in the workplace.
Adopting leadership skills: It is necessary to adopt all leadership skills for providing
appropriate guidance to team members by leaders. This can help to complete task and
accomplish objective of team by members. Effective team working also assists to achieving
goals of Travelodge. Leadership skills involves setting up direction, establishing standards,
effective communication and try to build relationship with all team members in the team work.
Following styles of leadership: It is also needed to follow different style of leadership
by leaders for involving all members to work together in a team. Leadership style involves
participative, laissez-faire, paternalistic etc. They must have followed democratic leadership
which is also known as participative leadership to develop team work (Rao, 2014). This style
includes all team members are determining essential goals and developing strategies and
accomplish goals of team. These leaders make efforts that employees are more committed and
engaged in decision making and implement policies for effective team work in the Travelodge.
Focusing on goals: It is another way to complete task and achieve goals that adopt by
leader and team members in the Travelodge. If team member has identified goals clearly, so that
they need to focus on those objectives and not to distracted by other things. It is necessary to list
the top agenda, read out, record progress towards objectives. Then, member is discussing
priorities for coming week and bring speech back to objectives of team (Collet, Hine and du
Plessis, 2015).

4.1 Tools and methods for developing solution of problem
There are many tools and methods for developing the solution of problem such as Drill
Down Technique. First of all, HR manager require to have planned, so that they utilise drill
down method successfully. This method is great way to uncover the complex nature of most the
problems of business.
PRIDE Method for problem solving:
PRIDE stand for problem identification, research, ideas, decisions and evaluations which
can be used for solving different problems of workplace.
Problem Identification:
In this point, HR manager need to explain and identify the problems in detail and
determine limitation and restrictions.
Research:
After identification, HR manager needs to try to find information related to problems for
designing the solutions. This step is focused on collection of info background of problems.
Ideas:
In this section, there are three parts determined by HR manager for solving the problems
such as Brainstorm Ideas, thumbnail sketches and refined sketches. These sections design and
explain unique features of proposed solutions.
Decisions:
In this section, HR manager to make an essential decisions regarding refined sketch for
developing final solutions. It involves comparison, working drawing, construction solutions.
Evaluations:
This stage needs to evaluate the model and determine the different limitations which
involves in step 2. For solving the actual problems.
Drill Down Technique:
It is often utilised to highlight any procedure that narrow something down from bigger
elements into smaller pieces in business. One of the first thing can do is break that problem down
into its different elements until it have solved when people are faced large and complex difficulty
with importantly possible divisions. Drilling down is large problem that HR manager face into
various of smaller pieces are likely to lead to some surprising results. It is frequently to see many

finding out their reaction in certain situations. During interview, it is necessary to show around
business and tell them about culture of workplace. Therefore, HR manager need to sure that
hiring the best candidate for reducing labour turnover in the workplace.
Offer competitive pay and benefits: It is also needed to offer competitive pay and
benefits to employees. Therefore, employees are effectively working in the organization. They
require covering standard expenditure like housing, utilities and food. It is good to do market
research on wages when determining compensation for employees in the Travelodge.
Allow flexible work schedule: It is necessary to allow flexible work schedule to
employee in the organization. It let workers adjust their work time and location. Employees can
make work-life for themselves (Deeley, 2014). Workers can pursue things beyond work, go to
appointment and take care of their families. If the business allow flexible work schedule to
employees, so that its can help to reduce labour turnover in the workplace.
Give praise: It is needed to give praise for employees boost and identification. If
employees are done something right, so that HR manager show appreciation. Employee finish
their complex task before timeline congratulate them and show them their hard work. This can
help to more commitment and involvement in the every activity in the business. The objective is
to make boosting, positive work environment.
4.3 Financial and non-financial impact on business
There are mainly two impacts financial and non-financial on business. Financial impact
involve cost, budget and profits. Non financial impact includes performance of business,
employee development etc. This can impact on implement strategy on Travelodge.
Financial Impact: There are many factors involves in financial such as cost, profits and
budget. These can highly impact on implement strategies and overall business. Therefore, firm
need to ensure that planning and implementing appropriate strategy (Asonitou, 2015). This can
help to run business smoothly. For example: if Travelodge implement the customer relationship
management strategy, so that, it can increase profitability and growth of business in hospitality
industry. This can also help to decrease the cost which can occur fort attracting the customer
towards firm.
Non-financial Impact: Sometime, non-financial factors can highly impact on implement
strategy of business. It involves business performance, development of employees in the

workplace. This can highly impact on overall business. Therefore, company needs to ensure that
improving performance and developing the employees in the Travelodge. For instance: if firm
apply customer relationship management strategy in the business, so that, it can improve
business performance in hotel sector (Tanujaya, Prahmana and Mumu, 2017). This can aid to
employee for handling customer effectively in the workplace.
CONCLUSION
This report has summarised that there are many responsibilities which have completed by
human resource manager such as legal duties, employment legislation like health and safety,
anti-discrimination, developing ability to learn to employees. It can be concluded that utilising
different ways such as performance appraisals methods like 360 degree feedback, rating scale,
performance evaluation etc. to improve performance objective. It can be discussed that adopt
different motivation techniques and theories such as providing incentives, encourage
collaboration and utilising Maslow's need hierarchy theory for increasing motivation of
employees in the Travelodge. Furthermore, report has completed that training and development
as well as giving the incentives appropriately to worker helps in solving work-based problem
such as lack of motivation, low wages and incentives etc. It can be discussed that follow Belbin
Team Role for determine different role of people for team work in the firm. It can be concluded
that Tuckman team development theory is more beneficial for team building and team dynamic
in the company. Moreover, study has analysed that HR manager utilise different strategies such
as hiring of right people, offering competitive pay, allow flexible working environment of
solving the problem relating to labour turnover in the firm.
