INTRODUCTION
Operation management is responsible for producing the quality product which can satisfy
the customers in proper manner. The operation manager is responsible for getting great outputs
with less resources and this has to be taken care by manager that wastage of resources would not
be there (White, P., 2016). Thus reducing cost of production and using the available resources in
perfect manner helps in getting the great response through consumers as because with such great
responsibility a production department can produce the quality products which can satisfy needs
and wants of customers. The report is based on LEE COOPER which is a clothing company in
London, England. The entity was founded in around 1908 and founder of great firm is Morris
Cooper. The report will discuss about role and features a leader and manager has in company,
their function in different situation context and its theories and approach. Key approaches and
importance of MO in achieving goals and objectives and factors affecting within organisation.

P1 Different role and features of manager and leader.
Manager
Manager are those who are responsible for getting the work done by whole organisation
as one (Handschin, E. and Petroianu, A., 2012). Manager do provide task to different division
and levels according to their speciality in working which makes an effective working by every
individual and this lead to attainment of goals and objectives.
Role of manager
Set goals: Manager are having various role in organisation and setting goals is one of
them. Set goals helps the whole company to work in such direction which helps in achieving
those in proper way. Setting goals by manager makes employees of organisation to work in
efficient manner.
Divide task: The role of manager is to divide the task according to their speciality in
working as this help in getting the effectiveness in working and thus employees will work in
great manner as they will get the work according to their skills and knowledge for particular part.
Decision making: The manager are those which makes an effective decision for the
organisation and for employees. Decision related to work dividing and policy and norms which
has to be followed while working for particular task. Manager also makes policies for the whole

organisation which has to be followed by every individual in company. Decision of task in made
after receiving information of outside market which help in efficient decision and that makes
company stable in market.
Feature of manager
Discipline: The manager has discipline in their working and with this feature they
influence the whole organisation to work with discipline which helps in getting the work done
within time period stated. Discipline help in bringing effectiveness and builds personality as
well.
Commitment: The manager are having a nature of commitment towards work they
always work hard to complete their work in any manner. Commitment towards work help in
increasing productivity and attaining of goals and objectives as envisioned.
Leader
Leaders are influencer and motivator in organisation. Leader of Lee Cooper motivates
their employees and lower level in such way that makes worker to work in effective manner and
on time too (Nakayama and Bucks, 2012). Like manager the leader is also a pillar of company
which help in getting aims and targets.
Role of leaders
Communicate: The leaders are having a role of communicating with their employees on
regular basis which brings feeling in employees that they are the part of organisation and thus it
help the company in getting a efficient working by workers and various levels.
Provides direction: Leaders has the responsibility of providing direction to employees of
organisation and this makes to work in correct way although working in right direction and
mentoring by leaders help Lee Cooper to achieve their goals and objectives in proper manner.
Vision: The leaders do bring vision in eyes of employees of getting the work in such
manner and after the completion of task what rewards and incentives they going to receive for
their effective working. Vision thus helps organisation too of bringing new things and change in
company which will lead to attainment of goals and objectives.
Feature of leaders
Inspiring behaviour: The leaders are the one having a inspiring nature to others.
Inspiring employees to work inn effective manner and efficient way help them to get targets and
aims. Thus inspiration help in encouraging team or individual to work in right direction.

Confidence: leaders have the great confidence in them which help in influencing
employees and whole organisation as well. It is needed feature in every individual to complete
their task on time. Thus confidence help in building strength therefore this works effectively to
provide encouragement to employees.

P2 Role of leader and function of manager in different situation context.
The role of leader and function of manager works effectively is they have been taken
together in many other situation of organisation (Neck and Manz, 2010). In Lee Cooper the
operation manager wants to see that how leader and manager works effectively in different
situation and getting out of such situation to get efficient working criteria by the whole company.
The various situation context are as follows:
Decision making: The manager has the responsibility of making decision in organisation
and thus decision is thus a part of planning function of manager and while making decision for
whole company the leaders should also be a part of it just because leaders are those which can
easily communicate about problems and issues and normally what employees need when they
work effectively helps in making a great planning and decision for firm. Including all such for
entity helps in getting goals and objectives in effective and efficient manner. The research help in
making a effective decision for the business. Having changes in environment and affecting to
company then the manager and leaders are responsible for manipulating the employees and every
individual to adapt change and work according to such which make a firm to work efficiently.
Strategies: The manager and leader do make different type of strategies which help in
achieving goals and objectives in proper manner. Strategies are made with leaders risk taking
power and confidence in themselves and managers organising and staffing function power. Thus
when such thing includes then a effective strategies can be concluded (Lindström, et. al., 2012).
Strategies can be related to how to face competition or how to get the work done by employees
in effective manner. For. Such the company make different type of strategies which will helps
the company to receive their organisational goals and objectives. Leaders and managers create
those policy and make decision which can be followed by staff members easily and this makes
every individual of entity to work in effective and efficient manner.

Problem solving: Controlling power of manager and leaders solving quality of problems
helps in getting resolution for the problem and issues occurring in organisation. LEE Cooper face
lees or minimum part of employees conflict because the manager and leader both are responsible
for solving the issues faced by workers in organisation. Managers solves queries and problems
occurred in every level and department in effective manner so that coordination can be bought in
between every individual which help each department to work efficiently (Pandey, Chao, and
Leu, 2012). Leaders do solve the issues and consequences at lower level as they are responsible
for solving such directories at that level. Managers can also provide solution to lower level but
the leaders cannot become part of solving issues at different departments as they don't have
authorities to be included in such criteria.
Handling subordinator: Through direction power of manager and influencing power and
commitment towards work of leaders help them handling their subordinates in efficient manner.
Subordinator are assistant or person works under the leader and manager. Thus subordinates
work according to direction provided by leader and manager in company. Subordinates has the
responsibility to guide employees and lower level in right direction when leader and manager are
in absence criteria. Subordinator helps in reducing the work load of both the pillars of company
leaders and managers. Handling them by both the manager and leaders helps in getting effective
and efficient working by assistants. Thus subordinator provide direction and monitors to
employees in which manner they have to perform such task.
P3 Different theories and models of approach.
Various models of leadership do helps the leaders to motivate the employees and get the
work done by them in very effective and efficient manner (Chen, et. al., 2010). Theories of
leadership helps in getting work in various styles which helps in making the organisation to
achieve their goals and objectives. The various models of leadership are as follows:
Situational leadership: The leaders are very effective in their working as they are
commitment towards their work and having confidence and influencing power to manipulate the
others in proper manner. This theory says that how leaders influences their employees in various
situation come in between the working criteria. Leaders are those who can manage themselves
and their whole team in proper way. This situational leadership style is based on how leaders
perceive the different situation and thus performing anything is in the hands of leaders.
Influencing and motivating employees and levels to adapt the changes in organisation and leader

provides right direction to lower level in which they have to perform efficiently for getting
organisational goals and objectives in effective manner.
System leadership: This leadership style says that leader are nothing without their
followers. Thus leaders have the power of influencing others and employees and lower level are
the followers of leaders as direction provided by leaders and working by employee in that
direction only makes that employees and workers are the followers of their leaders. If nobody
work according to the leader then they are useless for organisation (Ming, et. al., 2013). Leaders
are responsible for making the framework in proper way which clarifies the image of complex
situation and help in converting all the complicated situation into dynamic nature.
Contingency theory: This theory of leadership is closely related to the situational
leadership as they wait and watch that how the leader operates and adapt changes with their
employees to get the work done in effective and better manner. For such theory there is a
measurement scale used in to know whether the leader is task oriented or relationship oriented.
Thus the measurement scale is of two criteria that is high scale and low scale. If leaders comes
under the high scale then they are relationship oriented and motivates with employees and if the
score is low then the leader is task oriented or motivated person. This theory also includes few
parts as well those are as follows:
 Leader member relation.
 Task structure.
 Position structure.
Great man theory: This theory of leadership says that leaders are born they are not made.
This includes like leaders are those who leads others by birth. According to this theory the
impact of heroes influences various individuals just because of their personality, charisma and
wisdom (Brennan, et. al., 2011). Thus leaders influences and motivate other in very great manner
and thus this makes employees to work effectively and efficiently and thus leaders have this
quality of influencing other by birth and they motivate others in such a way that others gets ready
to perform the function on their behalf in perfect manner.

The role of manager and leader helps in getting effective working by the operation
department. There are various approaches with the operation manager to increase the
productivity and thus the role of leader and manager help in getting the efficient working
scenario of organisation (Casolino, et. al., 2012). Operation manager is responsible in business
for getting effective production of product and services. The key approaches to operation
management is as follows:
Six sigma: This approach of operation manager helps in eliminating the defects and
errors in production and helps in getting effective manufacturing of products and services. The
products of Lee Cooper are available at reasonable prices and with quality as well. Thus
eliminating the defects and errors makes firm to produce the quality items and services for
customers through which can be satisfied and this will bring a positive image of business.
Operation manager do has responsibility to see that defects and errors has been eliminated or not.
The role of manager and leader helps operation manager to get the effective working as the
manager make decisions and according to that the product is manufactured in the company and
leader helps in making them commitment towards their production department. Thus operation
manager rely on manager for decision making and leader helps in commitment towards work.
Both does helps in getting the effective production of quality products and services.
Just in time: Before producing any of the product it is required by firm to have
information about the customers as what they need and wants what product can satisfy them.
This approach says that the production should be done at a time whenever it is required, not to
keep the products and services in warehouses because the preferences and needs of customers
changes in with time so wastage of production will be their of items. The manager helps them in
providing information about which product has to be manufactured as what type of demands are
there in market (Winget, et. al., 2010). The leaders helps in communicating the information
about market to the workers that they have to produce such product in such way etc.. Operation
manager do see that production should be done in right manner so that wastage of resources
could not happen.
Lean manufacturing: This manufacturing approach helps in reducing the wastage of
resources in effective manner. Using the resources in right way makes he efficient utilisation of

resources like raw material, man power and money etc.,. wastage of resource brings in the
increase in cost of production of certain product. If less wastage is made by employees then it
will lead to less cost of production which will help in deciding the price for item which is
suitable for customers that they will be able to pay this much amount for the quality product
(Ale, et. al., 2010). The manager can bring in the quality resources which will make to produce
the quality items and leaders can provide the direction to workers in which they have to perform
the task right quality of resources and working by employees in right direction will help in
minimising the cost of production in organisation.
BPR: Business process redesign help the organisation and operation manager too create a
business management strategy which focuses on analysing and it make a design of workflow
which will help in business processes in within the organisation. Thus it helps in building the
restructure of company by designing the process flow in proper manner.
P5 The importance and value of operation management in attaining the objectives.
The importance of operation management is there in organisation just because this help in
achieving organisational goals and objective in proper manner. Operation manager of company
helps in producing the effective products through minimising the cost of production in firm
which helps the firm to devise prices of the products and services in perfect way. Utilising
resources in effective manner help in getting the quality products by customers. The importance
of operation management in organisation is as follows:
Minimising of cost: Thus Lee Cooper staff works hard and tries to minimise the cost of
production so that products can be provided to customers at right prices. Satisfaction to
consumers through the quality product and reasonable price makes people to buy the products in
nice way. Cost of production can be minimised when the resources are used in right way and
wastage has not made of raw material (Chen, et. al., 2011). Therefore the quality products with
reasonable price increases the sale of products which directly helps in getting profits by
organisation and with such Lee Cooper can attain its goals and objectives in perfect manner.
Utilisation of manpower: Thus operation manager effectively utilise the available
resources in proper manner to get the expected output. Utilising the manpower helps the
operation manager to get the work done by employees in efficient way. As motivating them and
influencing them to perform better help the manager to get the effective working by employee

profits as somewhere this part of operation management also help in attaining objectives.
Reduces wastage: The operation manager helps in reducing wastage of resources in
organisation which leads in producing the quality product. Using resources in effective manner
and the wastage of resources can be used for further use and the raw material can be used in
creative manner which can help in producing the new product and attractive as well. Reduction
in wastage help in minimising the cost of production in organisation. Eliminating wastage and
providing quality products to customers helps company to attain objectives and goals.
Coordination: The operation management is responsible for making coordination among
various departments of organisation which help in smooth flow of work. Thus many other
departments help the operation manager with information which can be utilised by manager in
effective manner in producing the products. Coordination leads to working together to complete
task which has been allotted by the senior managers of the company. Coordination among
finance, HR, operation, research and development department etc.. thus helps in getting the
effective working in business.

P6 Assess the factors of business environment impact upon operational management.
Operational management is related to the day today activities and where production is
done on regular basis. Thus various factor are there which affects the function of operational
management. The factors which affects the working of operation manager are internal and
external factor which affects in great way (Smith, Rahn and Wang, 2010). It is required by
companies to know that how such factors going to affect the functioning part of operation in near
future. The factors is as follows:
Internal factors:
Customers: The customers are those who expect a quality products from the company in
great way. The needs and wants of customers do affect the decision making of the managers and
such change in information leads to change in the production scenario as well which will affect
the operational management and wastage of resources will be there.
Competitors: The competitors affects operation management in great manner as various
competitor are there of Lee Cooper. The competitors do affect decision making power of firm.

Although with competition in market the pricing and stability of firm is getting affected for
which the Lee Cooper is making new strategies and making them stable for longer period even
though. Decision making does affected with the competition firm has to bring changes so that
can fight with competition in market.
External environment:
Technology: The various technology is now available in market to be effective. Thus Lee
Cooper uses technology to become very effective in their working but other firms are using
better technology. To beat the competition in market the firms are using the new technology and
such which is not adaptable to employees of organisation and in such situation the leaders and
managers help the organisation with influencing workers to adapt such and work according to
needed criteria in proper manner.
Social cultural: The culture and values of many people is different in nature and it is
required by manager to make decision according to that only. The society does not accept
company is firm is producing voidable products. Id firm is manufacturing those products which
is acceptable and consumed by many people of such country but if that product only available in
huge amount then customers ignore to buy the item of such firm.
Economic factor: Economic condition of country and organisation both gets affected by
the unemployment, higher interest rates and inflation. Although the inflation is such which
increases he price of resources which help in production and thus with such the organisation
increases price of product to cover cost of individual item and with this firm has to face low ad
up scenario in business. The leaders and managers are those who make effective decision in
organisation which somewhere helps in selling of the product to increase sales and earn the
profit.
CONCLUSION
The operation management is related with minimising the cost of production and
reducing wastage in resources help the firm to get the expected output which makes Lee Cooper
to attain its goals and objectives in perfect manner. The report has discussed about the
operational management importance in organisation and how it helps in attaining objectives.
Various role and features of leaders and managers were also discussed which helps in various
situation scenario. The leaders do use various leadership style and theories as well to motivate
and influence employees so that they can work in effective way. There were few approaches
