INTRODUCTION Managers are important part of business unit, they manage people in such manner so that organizational goal can be accomplished (Boin, Stern and Sundelius, 2016). Present study is based on Hilton hotel which is an international brand that provide quality services to its consumers.Current assignment will discuss different management styles and organizational culture. Furthermore, it will conduct own swot analyses in order to identify strength and weakness. In addition, study will include skills of managers that can be helpful in their career development. TASK 1 1.1 Compare different management styles a) Management definition Management is the ability of managers tomanage peoplein organization. It can be defined as activity to manage, plan, control over business activities so that goal of the firm can be accomplished. b) management styles Therearevariousmanagementstylesthatareappliedindifferentorganization. Difference between these styles are discussed as below: Autocratic leadership It is the type of management style in which managers of the company keep all powers in their own hands and employees have to follow instruction of higher authorities (Bolman and Deal, 2017). In such type of condition it is essential for the followers to follow rules and regulations strictly. For example Tesco follows this management style that is why staff turn over is high in the company. Democratic leadership Democratic leadership is different from autocratic leadership because in such style managers involve people in decision making process. They empower people to make their own decision (Hayes, 2014). This helps in creating healthy workplace environment where people feel motivated. Hilton hotel adopts this management styles this helps the firm retaining staff members in workplace for longer duration. Laissez faire leadership 1
it is another type of management style in which managers of firm give freedom to employees to perform duties as per their own way. Higher authorities provide all necessary resources to them so that they can perform well. For example: Toyota follows this management styles (Hornstein, 2015). It provides flexible environment to workers so that they can perform well in organization. The main motive of applying different management styles in organization is to enhance workplace efficiency and improve performance of organization That is the main similarity in all these types of styles. 1.2 Leadership characteristics Being a manager in the Hilton hotel it is essential for the manager that to havethese skills: ï‚·Communication skill: It is essential for the manager that to be able to coordinate well with staff members. So that individual can communicate necessary details on time and canmakethemunderstandwiththeirresponsibilities.Thishelpsinminimizing confusions in workplace (Ehrhart, 2015). ï‚·Confidence: Manager of Hilton hotel needs to be confident. This will help in encouraging others. Communication plays significant role in organization. Hilton hotel adopts verbal and written communication both. Charles Handy cultural model explains different type of culture. Hilton hotel follows task culture. Companymake the employees feel that they are valuable to the business unit.Each person is given responsibilities as per their own abilities. This helps them in performing task in effective manner (Leadership Styles,2017). In order to manage operational and service changes company make strong relationship withemployees.Thisrelationshipsupportsthefirminmanagingchangeseffectively.It coordinates well with employees vision and objective of change. By this way workers understand requirement of changes and they accept modification in workplace. If any policy get changed then it becomes essential for Hilton hotel to implement it (Ehrhart, 2015). In such condition managers of cited firm make them employee understanding necessity of change and how they can get benefit with this alteration. This helps in managing changed effectively. I can manage team of 10 people but when team members get increased then I feel difficulty in managing them well. By this way they will ignore salary aspects and will feel happy in workplace. 3.2 Managerial decision to achieve goal When employees are not satisfied in organization due to its poor pay scale then managers should make decision to empowering the workers. By giving more power and by involving them decision making process entity can make them feel valued. This will support the firm in retaining skilled labour in workplace for longer duration and it will enhance satisfaction level of workers as well. Empowerment is the best decision this can help the Hilton hotel in managing team members well and improving their performance as well (Hornstein, 2015). Hilton hotel's managers should provide them promotion opportunities. They have give recognition in front of all employees and have to recognise the person for their best performance. This will make the person loyal towards the firm. By this way individual will put more efforts to enhance revenues of the organization (Boin, Stern and Sundelius, 2016). Managers should communicate with staff members well. This is appropriate management decision because communication minimize confusion in the mind of employees. Furthermore, with the help of motivation skill I can be able to retain staff in workplace for longer duration. By this way I will be able to perform my duties well as manager.
