INTRODUCTION
Managing a small business is quite difficult task in comparison to big organisation as
they have huge workforce and resources to conduct business activities in effective manner to
attain desired results. There are large number of challenges are faced by small organisations due
to the presence of external factors and high competition in market. One of the effective medium
which helps the small organisation to build their organisational structure more strong is to
implement the digital technology within the organisation. There are large number of benefits
which are gathered by organisation like high market share, improved quality of products and
services, higher amount of production, increased amount of sales etc. McLaren Construction is
an award winning construction company which have many branches in and outside London.
In the present report explain about, aim and objectives of project, production of project
management plan, formulation of work breakdown structure and Gantt chart. Also, application of
qualitative and quantitative research method to meet out the aim and objectives of research and
recommendations which contributes to effectively adopt digital technology.

P1 Aims and Objectives of project
Digitisation is one of the important aspect which improves the internal strength of
organisation. It today's world, adopting of digital technology within the organisation is necessity
to improve their performance and attainment of the sustainability in their operations. There is
huge role is played by the digital technology in development of the different areas of
organisation through which competency is attained in their different functions. It is important for
the small organisations is to implement the new technologies and ideas to effectively compete in
the market in front of big competitors. This will provides the opportunity to the administration
department of the organisation is to effectively record the transactions and informations through
use of cloud technology. This makes the task of company easy to gather the information from
such different sources in appropriate manner which through which important conclusions are
drawn. On the other hand, there is huge support is provided by the digitisation in the
development of promotional activities through use of online platforms and social media. These
kind of promotional methods have wide range which helps to spread awareness among the
market about their different offerings. It contributes in enhancing their brand image, satisfaction

of requirements of clients, competitive advantage, profound organisational structure, high
amount of profitability etc.

Background of project
McLaren in one of the good construction organisation which provides their business
functions in and outside London. This organisation has good reputation in the market regarding
timely delivery of the outstanding projects. This organisation has specialisation in the
preparation of new, refurbishment and office fit out projects. It is observed that the structures of
organisation are very strong (Park and et. al., 2014). It is important for the organisation is to
continuously adopt the changes within the organisation which provides the opportunity to attain
competitiveness in market. There are large number of competitors are present in the market
which has direct negative impact upon their sales and profitability. It is observed that at present
McLaren uses outdated and non digitalised methods in the process of recording different
informations which impacts their decision-making capacity. So, it is highly significant for the
organisation is to implement new technology within the organisation to effectively deals with the
internal and external factors (Brown and Davis, 2013). The benefits which are derived from such
implementation is about increasing the quality of work, satisfaction of requirements of clients,
improves productivity, increase in the number of project taken by McLaren, high amount of
profits and building of goodwill in the market which ensures their sustainable growth in future
period of time.
Aim: The main aim of McLaren behind the adoption of digital technology is to address the
complex needs of both public and private which contributes in expansion of their business
operations to accommodate new work force. Through bring all such changes helps in
improvement of market shares and profitability (Taylor, Fritsch and Liederbach, 2014).

Research Questions: These questions are formulated on the basis of the objectives of
organisation which are mentioned below:

Project management plan is known as a formal and approved written documents that is
used by business firms for manage execution of their project. Mainly this is used to manage
various stages of a project (Buckingham, 2013). His highlight the required actions which are
essential to formulate, define, integrate and coordinate various planning activities. It defines how
a project is monitored, executed, controlled and closed. This also serve as a communication tool
which help stakeholders in gain a better understanding of project. It is not a project schedule.
Project management plan is made up of three main things known as tasks, activities and
resources. Develop project management plan is very essential for developers and teams
members of project department. One of the main benefit of project management plan is that is
support in determine cost, time, scope, risk, communication and quality require during whole
project ans is essential for achieve set goals and objectives. This provide direction to manager
and at the same time save time and cost. Major elements of project management plan can be
understood by the following points:
 Scope: This factor of project management plan indicate the areas in which project can be
executed and the main activities involve in the project. Determine the scope of project is
very essential for examine the impact of technology. This provide basis for interpret data
and to take better decision. It is very important for investigator for identify and study the
major areas that largely affect the activities of project (Yilmaz and Krein, 2013).
 Cost: This is known as one of the most essential component of every project. A business
entity cannot execute any kind whether it is large or small without adequate financial
resources. McLaren Construction require huge amount of funds to implement technology
at workplace and to get all its benefits. Lack of funds create problems before firm and at
the same time increase complexity.

 Quality: Success or failure of every kind of project is largely depend on this aspect. For
achieve set goals and to offer a featured product to its customers, it is very essential for
McLaren Construction to maintain the quality of project. This can be done by use proper
tools to monitor various activities of project (Howard and Hussain, 2013).
 Risk: This is known as one of the inevitable factors of every type of project. Identify and
maintain the risk is very essential for get maximum benefits of project completion and to
maintain the cost related with that project. Risk related with implementation of digital
technology at workplace is wrong and ineffective implementation, lack of proper
knowledge and skill.
 Time: All activities of project require to completed in time as this increase its efficiency
and effectiveness. This also save time of firm to complete the project which provide
various long term benefits to entity. It is very essential for McLaren Construction to use
effective tools so that time require to complete the project can be minimised and profits
can be maximise (Woodill, 2011). It is very much necessary to complete the work
process in set time period so that no delay of work could take place.
 Communication: For ensure effective completion of all activities, it is very essential
that there should be proper coordination among areas of project. Right and effective tool
of communication should be use by McLaren Construction for interact with other parties
and to maximise their contribution in project success. Effective communication system
helps in carrying out the whole work process in conducive way so that ultimate path
could be achieved.
 Resources: Large number of resources are require to complete a project. Employees and
funds are the major resources require to carry out research. Lack of resources create
unnecessary delays and at the same time decrease the effectiveness of whole project.
With this, McLaren Construction can implement technology in adequate manner and at
the same time can manage all business activities in an effective manner. All this boost up
business process and increase profitability of entity (Jaeger, 2012).
P3 Production of WBS and Gantt chart to provide time-frames and stage for completion
Work breakdown structure is a important process adopted by the management in which
whole activity is managed in effectively and efficiently (Varnelis, 2012). It is a complex process
in which work process is further divided into small structures so that whole work process can be

fulfilled in proper way. McLaren Construction have number of departments performing diverse
functions of different nature therefore, it is necessary to coordinate these activities in conducive
manner so that ultimate results can be accomplished.
The Gantt Chart is formulated to obtain important data information in relation to
particular tasks that is taking place in adequate manner. It involve number of interrelated
activities which involve assigning date to the work task, time duration, number of employees
required as well as completion of that task (Laudon and Laudon, 2015). Proper arrangement
results into completing the work process in set time period. This enable the manager of McLaren
Construction to identify the various type of activities so that time period can be measured, how
much time is required to complete it so that corrective measures can be adopted. On the other
hand, work breakdown structure is applied to bring proper coordination and cooperation among
all activities that is performed by different types of department of McLaren Construction so that
it could lead to accomplishment of final vision and aims of the organisation.

Gantt Chart and work breakdown structures have to be applied by the organisation so that
it must be applied in order to reach final objectives set by the company. Their basic objective is
to perform each and every task in efficient way that results into performing every activity in
productive way. By applying digital technology in the company's process, work can be
performed to achieve high outcomes and output (Parveen, Jaafar and Ainin, 2015). On the other
hand, it is executed to enhance the overall performance and focused on earning more profits.
McLaren Construction involve several activities that has to be carried out in efficacious mode.

There are number of stages that has to be carried out in proper format to reach the final steps
that has to be properly implemented in corrective means (Lee, Chang and Berry, 2011).
P4 Application of qualitative and quantitative methods to meet out research aims and objectives
Every business organisation perform different types of research in order to perform the
research process, so that their study could be conducted in achievable manner. Basically,
McLaren Construction has to be conducted in four ways that are described below:
 Sampling: It is a statistical representation of about the population on which research
process has to be performed. It can be further been performed in two ways that are
probability sampling and sampling Random sampling. In probability sampling each and
every component of population has greater probability as compared to zero probability
that has to be adopted (Tyner, 2014). On the other side, random sampling is performed in
which every entity of population has equal chance to get selected. It is very much
difficult for the researcher to examine several components of the population on which the
research work has to be carried out. Thus, this sampling method helps in solving such
issue and selected group of people is the target for the researcher.
 Quantitative Research: In this type of research, quantifiable data is presented which
consist of figures, data of different nature. It involves recoding of views, opinions and
behaviour of every individual in numerical format. It is conducted through surveys,
questionnaires and structured interviews so that results can be measured in qualitative
outcomes.
 Qualitative Research: In this, non numerical data is analysed so that proper results can
be determined. This type of research is performed on targeted group of people through
interviews, observation, analysis, open ended surveys etc. Basically, qualities are
included in this procedure.
 Primary Research: The main feature of this research process is that, it is collected by
the researcher himself through surveys, interviews, and observation system. In this proper
statistical tools and methods are applied so that proper sample group must be selected and
proper research process is carried out. It is further been classified into two parts that are
specific and exploratory (Salemink, Strijke and Bosworth, 2017). McLaren Construction
wants to take the feedbacks from their target group than they can collect it from primary

research by filling the questionnaire form. It is a first hand information that is collected
by the researcher and pertain with high reliability and uniqueness. It is free from number
of difficulties and problems that has been faced by the researcher (Loveless, 2011).
 Secondary Research: In this type of research, researcher gathers all information from
already collected data. There are number of sources available that is present through
which this research is carried out. Business journals, newspapers, magazines and books
helps the researcher to collect relevant and materialistic information. Basically,
organisation do not have to expend lot of finance while carrying out this research.
From the above discussion, it has been concluded that the single firm can adopt various
ways to conduct research process and have to select one that could full fill their basic objectives
and aims. It is very much important for the management system to perform the research work in
effective way so that overall process can be conducted effectively (Ouellette, Desjardine and
Kuffel, 2012).

technology in work process and to know that the whole research procedure is focused upon

P7 Reflection
Research process is a difficult task that involve number of interrelated activity that has to
be carried out in effective way. I have come across several challenges while carrying out the
research work study. It was not simple for them to carry out the whole process in effective
manner. Gantt chart and work breakdown structure is properly applied by the business
organisation to carry out the number of activities in effective and efficient way (Reinhart,
Thomas and Toriskie, 2011). I have learnt so many aspects and criteria that has helped me to
draft proper and effective policies that is required to carry out the whole process in adequate
way. As there are several methods and ways through which researcher can perform the whole
research work in efficient way. I have also learnt about the uses of digital technology in
company's working process. On the other hand, how whole management plan is formulated to
reach the ultimate targets that has been earlier set in research objectives and aims. It is very much
necessary to perform the whole work task while complying the work process with organisation's
objectives and final aims that has been set by them. Full efforts must be made to accomplish it in
proper ways (Stone and Woodcock, 2014).
CONCLUSION
From the above prepared report, it has been concluded that digital technology play a vital
role in small scale organisation as it help them to carry out the work task in effective and
efficient manner. Researcher have to perform research process in conducive manner so that
objectives and aims that has been formulated must be accomplished in set time period. Apart
from it, report also highlights the importance of Gantt chart and work breakdown structure that is
enjoyed by the company. There are several various ways through which research process in
conducted, organisation have to choose the best method that would yield them, high outcomes
and results.
