INTRODUCTION
Events can be described as form of gathering on any occasion. In the following project
report, an attempt has been made to analyse and examine the different types and dimensions of
events with an analysis of the major trends influencing the event sectors.
TASK 1 (Individual Written Report)
P1 Examination of different categories and dimension of events.
Organising and arranging a public occasion can take place in different forms and types of
events according to the needs and requirements. Events can be classified into three different
major categories and can further be classified into sub-categories as follows:
Private Events:
Private event is a form of event in which individuals host a gathering to celebrate any
occasion and only a certain group of people or a limited number of guests are welcomed. Venue
under a private event is not open to everyone and usually a guest list is prepared by the
individuals hosting the event to ensure only a certain people are invited at the event. In the
context of Kuoni Destination Management, many forms of private events are handled and
organised by the company. Some of the common examples of private events are weddings,
birthday parties etcetera.
Weddings: Most of the private events are organised for celebration purpose on occasions
such as weddings where privacy and gathering of close people is a primary concern for the hosts.
A wedding event is usually organised for a few days under which many functions and
ceremonies take place.
Corporate Events:
Corporate events can be described as events which are used by companies and business
organisations for the promotion of their products and services and creating brand awareness
among general public. They are usually large-scale events with a large number of people as
guests or the participants of the event. Corporate events are very vital and crucial for any
company to increase its public awareness and foster healthy relationships with the existing
customers and other stakeholders (Raj, Walters and Rashid, 2017). Corporate events are very
essential in promoting a new launched product or service by an organisation. Many type of
corporate events are organised by the management of Kuoni Destination Management such as

usually a very large scale event and is open to general public and media houses and technology
bloggers etcetera.
Charity Events:
Charity events as the name suggests are used by organisations or individuals with an
objective of raising money for any social cause or extending any help to the society. Charity
events are widely diversified and are usually sponsored by a business organisation or corporate
giant as a way of executing its corporate social responsibility. It helps a business organisation to
improve its public image and goodwill. Some of the most common examples of charity events
are charity shows, sponsored marathons, society events etcetera
Charity Shows: Charity shows are commonly hosted by individual artists in which some
talent or art is displayed like a Stand-up comedian hosting a comedy event and a limited number
of people form the audience by paying some ticket price and in such events, all the proceedings
from the event is donated to a charity of individual’s choice.
Dimensions of Events:
Mega events: These are events which are conducted or organised at a very large scale and
a lot of management and organisation is essential for smooth execution of such mega events.
Mega events is a dimension of event based on its size and audience (Grix and Lee, 2013). It is
very important for a destination management company to plan effectively and efficiently for
organisation of a mega event and in the context of Kuoni Ltd., the overall ability and competency
of an event management company is usually ascertained by its capacity to host such mega
events.
Live & virtual events: Live events are events which are conducted in front of a large
number of people or audience and involves a display of a talent or an artistic quality for example
a musical concert. Virtual events is another dimension of event which is primarily based on

product launches etcetera.
Product launches: Product launches are corporate events organised by business
organisations when a new service or product is offered in the market. These events have the
objective of creating awareness about the product which has been launched and provide

Over the past few years, many changes and trends have influenced the operations in events
sector and industry with respect to its different types. Some of the major trends which should be
considered by the management of Kuoni Ltd. are as follows:
Use of technology: Use of technology and innovation in the events sector has been a trend
which has influenced the industry. For example, event apps are being used by the private hosts in
wedding events and birthday parties to manage and design the complete layout of the event. The
service provide by such apps is of high quality which has been one of the major trends in the
event sector (Park and Park, 2017). Live streaming of many events such as product launches by
mobile companies like OnePlus is another major trend in the event industry.
Decorative themes: Every event these days whether it is a private event or a corporate event
is influenced by the theme which is used for decoration. With respect to this, using suitable
decorative themes as per the need of clients is one of the biggest trend influencing the events
industry. For example, in the wedding events, a theme is picked which forms the base for entire
decoration of the event.
Location and venues: Another most important trend in the events industry has certainly
been the increasing use of different locations and alternative venues which helps in engaging and
attracting the audience. For example, most of the wedding events these days are usually taking
place in the form of destination weddings with a beautiful location. Importance of location has
certainly increased in the events industry as a new trend.
Safety and security: Safety and security is one of the major concerns and every event as an
essential requirement needs to have proper arrangement of security and safety during the event
(Fedorchenko, Kotenko and El Baz, 2017). Health issues, cybersecurity, travel disruptions
etcetera are some of the issues related to the security of events which needs to be taken care of.

It can be concluded from the above project report that there are various forms of events such
as private events like weddings, corporate events like product launches and charity events like
shows and marathons. It can also be concluded that some of the major trends influencing the
