INTRODUCTION
Leadership is related with taking the responsibilities of leading people in an organisation.
Human resources have the responsibilities to recruit and select new employees who have the
potential to execute all the working in effective ways. United Parcel Services are one of the
leading company who are dealing in parcel services. They have faced many problems like
leadership and management (Adamou, 2017). This results in losses for firms thus they have
planned to adopt new recruitment and selection policies in order to solve the issue. This report is
based on recruitment and selection plans, impact of leadership and team management.
TASK 1
1.1 Confirmation for selection and hiring process for the new staff
The Selected firms should focus on maintaining records of all the workers who are
involved in performing business operations. This helps in analysing the present workforce who is
employed by firms. The selecting and hiring process are linked with choosing the right people
who can perform business operations in order to achieve good results. This can be achieved with
the help of job description as described below:
JOB DESCRIPTION
There are different type of job vacuum in UPS company:
Departments: First mile shipment, second mile delivery, MIS, Packing, front and back office
Reports to: Managing directors of different departments
Pay Salary: It is based on interview according to skills and their post
Main purpose of the job: There main role is to reach the hub on time take the allotted parcels
and deliver the same to the respected persons on time and keep accurate records of the
payments received.
Main duties and responsibilities:
They should reach office on time and prompt delivery without any delay.
Accurate records of the money received from customers
Management of all the parcels in effective ways so that they are not destroyed.

The selected candidate must have good communication skills in order to interact with
customers. He should be punctual in reaching hub ta time and parcel the packets to clients. All
those who are applying for front office operations should have the capabilities to handle
problems effectively.
Qualifications:
Bachelor degree in any field.
Should have good accounts and record keeping skills.
Skills:
Good driving ability
Effective communication in order to handle customer complain
Experience:
Experience of more than 1 years in similar field.
This is evaluated by firms when the candidates are giving their original documentation. It
should contains all the necessary elements which have to be kept as future records as:
1. Degree of qualifications as specified
2. Any certificates of achievement
3. Proof of identity
4. Passport size photograph
5. Driving license of employee.
1.2 Impact of Regulatory, Legal and Ethical thought for recruitment and selection
The recruitment and selection process had to be carried out with the specific guidelines
which had to be followed by the company in their operations. This policy is followed all around
UK so elected firms had to follow all the legal, ethical and regulatory policy in their hiring
process.
The Equality Act 2010: This act implies that all persons are equal in the eyes of law. So
the selected firms should treat all their workers equally without any discrimination among them
like treating any employee special. This is also applicable at the time of hiring and selecting
policies (Elton, 2016).
Equal Pay Act 1970: All the employees who are working at the same levels should be
given equal salary and there should not be any favouritism. The company should focus on setting

the pay scales according to their assigned works and there should be no fluctuation in this
without any prior notice to employees.
Race Relation Act 1976: This act implies that at the work place employees should not be
discriminated on the basis of there colour and they should be treated equally among all aspects. It
is vital for selected firms to adopt this policy while they are executing hiring and selecting
process.
Employment Protection Act 1978: This aim states that all the important informations
should be communicated to employees who is selected for the post. It includes information like
list of holidays, termination rules and policies, working hours, payment, commencement etc.
Thus act act has to considered by selecting firms when they are hiring employees for business
operations (Cenderello and et. al., 2015).
1.3 Function in selection process
The selection process which are adopted by USP company there I have been given the
role of interviewer. My main responsibilities were to conduct interview process for the interest
candidates and check that they are suitable for the post or not according to their skills. There was
a performance measurement template assigned in which record has to be maintained about how
the employee performed at the time of interview and this helps in selection of employees. The
reports are developed in the following ways as:

This is the assessment criteria which are developed by the selected firms and the
interviewer had to mark the student on these basis and select them for the same. The person who
performed well has been chosen for the next phase and those who were lacking in some fields
were rejected. This is the way of selecting employees for the post which were empty in USP.
1.4 Effort to the selection process
United Parcel Services have adopted effective selection processes on the basis of which
they are selecting persons who can work in their company. The steps which are included in the
selection process are described as:
Preliminary Interview: This is the first stage of conducting interview in this process
basic screening of persons minds are evaluated in order to know his potential.
Application Blank: The persons who have been selected in the process have to fill all the
details in the sheet which is given to them.
Written test: This test is useful in knowing the knowledge level of candidates weather he
has relevant knowledge about this field or not.
Employment Interview: If the individual is selected in the written test than they had to go
through the final process of selection where I with my team members check the knowledge level
of candidates by adopting different measures and strategies (CALIN, 2016).
Medical Examination: If all the above test have been cleared than he had to go through
medical fitness test in order to know that he is fit for the job or not.
Appointment Letter: If the candidate is fit for the job and he has cleared all the levels
than he is given interview letter which states his post and the date he can join the company.
My contribution in the selection process was that I have conducted interview programmes
along with my team and have marked them according to the criteria which were mentioned in the
assessment sheets. If the candidate is fit for the job than they are given appointment letter and if
not they are rejected from the post.

2.1 Power and attributes needed for leadership
There are various power and attributes which are needed by a person in order to become
good leaders. They play an important role in assigning roles and responsibilities to their
employees so that they can perform there business operations in effective ways. Various types of
skills should be unbuild in a leader which are described as:
Honesty: The leaders should be honest in their work so that they can pass the same
message to their employees in order to work effectively to achieve goals and business objectives.
Communication: He should have effective communication skill so that they can deliver
right message to the workers in order to execute their working effectively. If there is any
problem faced at business organisation than they should adopt strategies in order to solve them
efficiently.
Commitment: They should be committed towards achieving their desired targets on times
and satisfying his employees by adopting strategies which are helpful for them in delivering
services to customers.
Positive Attitude: All the leaders should work in very positive ways if there is any bad
situations or if they are facing difficulty. They should not be aggressive and should have the
ability to deal effectively with all the situations.
Creativity: They should be creative in their working and adopt new strategies by which
they can make the business operations executed in effective ways so that company can recover
all their losses (Hartley-Bangs, 2016).
Confidence: Leaders should have the ability to deal with any type of situation that may
arise in the firms with confidence. It is very helpful in removing all the negative aspects and
opens door for positive results. It is truly said that leaders are not born by birth but they develop
this attitude with desired time frames.

not achieved than marked as loss of pay, touchers etc. These types of motivations are used by
firms according to demand factors. At present situation company is having losses so that they
motivate employees to work well by giving them non monetary benefits like promotions etc. the
employees who are not achieving desired results can be terminated from the work place
(Herring, 2016).

Team working is very important for selected firms as it helps business in order to create

united and working together as one team than there aims can be achieved in better ways as it was
expected by management. They have the power to fight will difficult situation when all the

Team working are beneficial for firms as they can achieve success by accomplishing all

achieving there Targets. It is also useful in generating new ideas by which business operations

The Company Can Set Standards Of Performance: All the actual performance of the
employees has to be measured with the standards which are designed by business in order to
execute business operations in effective ways.
Setting Up Random Methods Of Assessing Performance: The performances of
employees can be measured by various tools like 360 degree feedback, measurement and score
cards. These can be valuable in evaluating employees performance as they have achieved their
set targets.
Reviewing The Performance: Various methods can be used in order to monitor
performances of employees and necessary changes can be implemented in order to improve
performance level (Thompson, 2016).
4.2 Plan to access development needs of individuals
The plans which are beneficial in analysing development needs includes the following
steps as:
Setting the standards for performance: Various plans and strategies can be adopted in order to
check the performance as they are effective or not.
Communicating the standards: All the plans and strategies which are developed should be
effectively communicated to all the group members
Collecting the data of actual performance: All the relevant data that matches with the

The assessment process can help the selected firms to achieve back success for UPS.
They should mainly focus on those are areas where they are not able to achieve success, the
strategies adopted by their competitors and what changes can be developed by the selected firms.
This can be evaluated by the assessment process so that firm can know where the actual problem
is arising and proper measures can be designed in order to solve them. The company will achieve

and development programmes are useful in increasing knowledge level of employees so that they
