INTRODUCTION
Organization is a place where individuals are come from different background and
culture to work for the common goals i.e. organizational goal. It is necessary for each and every
individual to behave in a way that it does not affect the operations of the business. However,
organizational behaviour plays an important role in making people understand the behaviour to
be adapted at workplace. This will not only help the individual but the company as whole. The
present report is based on the case study of GSK which is a well known global healthcare
company. The organization works with a motive to offer quality care services to the patients. The
document is going to enlighten the culture and structure of this organization with a purpose to
understand the overall organizational structure. In addition to this, the factors are also about to
discuss which can influence the behaviour of the employees at workplace (Buitendach and De
Witte, 2005)
TASK 1
1.1, M.1
There are different kinds of organizational structure which is being adopted by the
companies as per their work and culture. The organizational structure plays an essential role in
the success of a company. If it is not as per the operations of the firm then it can be responsible
for the affecting the management of the company. However, there are mainly four kinds of
organizational structure such as hierarchy, functional, geographical and matrix. Whereas,
hierarchical structure is the one in which the power is distributed form top to bottom. In this
structure every level has its own head. The members of this section can communicate with their
superiors and subordinates. In addition to this, functional structure is one where the groups are
formed as per the specialization. Here, different departments are formed in which certain people
work. On other hand, geographical structure is adopted by the organizations whose offices are
situated in different geographical boundaries. In case of matrix organizational structure the firm
consist of several reporting lines for the management of individuals (Cui and Hu, 2012).
As per Charles handy, the culture of an organization is consist of four types i.e. power,
task culture, person culture and role culture. According to the organizational structure and
culture of GSK, the organization has flat hierarchical structure where the policies are formed by
board of directors and further it is followed by the whole staff. The structure of this firms consist
of different department through which the work is allotted. In terms of culture, the stated firm

has task or job oriented culture. In this organization the formation of teams are done on the basis
of their operation. For an instance, the organization offers healthcare services such as
pharmaceutical, consumer healthcare and vaccines etc. For the same, the organization requires
making a team so that their goals can be achieved. Where as on another hand, NHS has tall
hierarchical structure. With the help of this structure the organization gets chance for the
advancement of services (Hallikas, and et.al., 2004).

The organizational structure and culture is closely connected with each other. However,
this can have a huge impact on the performance of GSK. In order to attain the goals and
objectives of the company, the management needs to match up the structure with the culture. As
the organization has flat hierarchical structure which will assist the company to keep good
employee relations. In addition to it, the organization has a culture of task oriented where the
employees are assigned duties and responsibilities as per their qualification. This helps the
subordinates to give their best to the organization. For an instance, GSK has flat hierarchical
structure where the flow of work is from top to bottom. However, this helps the company to
divide the work in an effective manner. In addition to it, the organizational structure of the
company defines the process through which the work is done by the employees. However, this
will help the organization to attain its goals and objectives in an effective manner (Hoon Yang,
Lee and Lee, 2007)
The motive of this organization is to render the best health care services to the customer.
This firm has different departments which performs various services for the customers. As a
result, the patients will not be needed to search the concerned department. This will result into
increase in the profitability of the company.

At GSK there are various factors through which the behaviour of an individual may get
influenced. This may lead to affect the operations of the stated organization. However, the
factors are given below.
Process of Communication: This is the most crucial factors which can affect the
behaviour of an individual. This process can bridge the gap between the relations of
employees and employer if it is not properly adapted. The management of GSK requires
