INTRODUCTION
Organization and behavior are the aspects that helps in studying the respective behavior
of the individual to structure the entire resources in an effective form (Hannah and et.al., 2014).
The present report is based on Caris Bay Hotel which is the most prominent building in Carbis
Bay , overlooking the beach. The present study discuss about the different aspects through which
the work is carried out in a smooth and effective form. This study discuss about the different
factors such as structure and culture along with the different leadership skills and its impact over
the different aspects that are associated with it. Furthermore, the report also explains about the
different types of organisational structures and cultures. More than this, different factors are
described that influence individual behaviour.
TASK 1
Definition
Organization structure and culture are the aspects that are related with each other. The
culture is the determinant that develops around the structure of company. There are various
aspects that influence the overall operations and determine the positive and negative aspects
(Devambatla and Nalla, 2015). Organisational culture is related to the system of some shared
assumptions, values and beliefs that govern how people behave in the business enterprise. Other
than this, structure of the company is related to how different activities such as task allocation,
coordination and supervision are directed towards the achievement of their aims and objectives
(Fein and et.al., 2015).
Comparing and contrasting organizational structures and cultures
The structure and culture of the organizations are different as per their work patterns and
other dimensions.
The organization structure of the Caris Bay Hotel is tall and centralized. On the other
hand, the structure of Headland Hotel is flat and decentralized. Former structure of the
company results in one long chain of command similar to the military. As the
organisation grows the management levels of the company also increases (Galegher,
Kraut and Egido, 2014). On contrary to this, latter structure has fewer level of
management and each of them controlling a broad group.

Caris Bay Hotel follows the proper flow of information to make the communication with
manager (Fein and et.al, 2015.). Whereas, at Headland Hotel the employees are made to
communicate directly with the manager. At Caris Bay Hotel people are supposed to
follow the organisational hierarchy as they are following the tall and centralized
organisational structure. On the other hand, it is not necessary at Headland Hotel to
follow the organisational hierarchy as they are having few organisational layers (Hagger
and Chatzisarantis, 2014).
The work culture is the aspect that influences the overall working of the organization in
an effective manner. This determined the employment of the efficient employee to manage the
work in an appropriate manner.
The work culture of Caris Bay Hotel is task oriented in which the employees are made to
work in a team in an effective form (Galegher, Kraut and Egido, 2014). Whereas,
Headland Hotel follow the role culture which focuses on empowering the abilities of the
employees to work in an effectual form as per their qualities. In the task oriented culture,
behavioural approach is focused in which the leaders have to look upon the tasks that
need to be performed in the company to meet the organisational goals. On contrary to
this, in role cultured specific duties are assigned to all the people through which they can
meet the organisational requirement and goals (Anandarajan, Anandarajan and
Srinivasan, 2012).
The work culture of Caris Bay Hotel is very tight as the work need to be completed by
meeting the deadlines and this reduces the overall efficacy of the employees. Whereas,
the work culture of Headland Hotel is dynamic and it is concerned about developing the
diverse work patterns is that employees are able to attain the effective outcomes. Caris
Bay Hotel is only focusing on achieving the task as it will create burden on the
employees. While on the other hand, in the role culture people are not feeling burden of
work which create a good environment at the workplace (Bonnici, 2011).
Relationship between organization structure and culture and impact on performance
The entire performance of the organizations is related to the structure and culture which
have a greater impact over the functional aspects of the business (Hagger and Chatzisarantis,
2014.). With the proper analysis, the work patterns of the enterprises are determined to carry out
the respective operations. Effective relation is determined that helps in influencing the overall

productivity level of Caris Bay Hotel. As the structure of Caris Bay Hotel is hierarchical and
span of control is narrow. The entire structure of Caris Bay Hotel is centralized as the decision
making power is handled by the single personnel and results in the delay of the work as the
decisions are not made by the small level. Organisational structure plays an important role in
monitoring the flow of communication in different levels and sectors as it entirely dependent
upon the structure of the company while the culture of the Caris Bay hotel will help to make
people comfortable at the workplace (Boons and Lüdeke-Freund, 2013). Through managing
organisational structure, managing discipline at the workplace will be easy.
The major aspects that impact the overall functioning of Caris Bay Hotel is related to the
work complexity resulting in the high turnover of the employees. This affects the overall
performance of employees due to this, Caris Bay Hotel is not able to retain the efficient
employees. It is necessary that the culture of the organisation should match the structure of the
company. As if it does not supports their culture then it will not affect the working practices at
the company (Cai and Yang, 2014).
The work culture of Caris Bay Hotel is very complex due to which the responsibilities of
the employees are not carried out in an effective manner. This is due to the slow communication,
which takes place in the organization. Therefore, it results in the work delay as the appropriate
decisions are not taken in an effective manner. The overall performance of Caris Bay Hotel is
affected to a greater extent. Furthermore, to reach at the organisational goals, it is necessary for
the company to follow the formal structure followed in Caris Bay Hotel. Moreover to this, it is
also essential for the company to make focus on achieving the organisational goals which is
followed by the hotel as they are making focus on achieving the task of the company (Chou and
Pearson, 2012).
Factors which influences individual behaviour at work
There are several factors that influence the individual behaviour at work in different
ways. The major key attributes that influences the behaviour of the personal is stated below:
Abilities: These refer to the traits, which the individual inherit from the environment and
certain traits are present form the birth time. All of this traits provides the ability to deal
with the different circumstances. Through this, people will be able to make focus on the
work and it will be easy for them to understand the working practices of the company.

Perception: This is an intellectual process that helps in transformation of the perception
of the individual in the meaningful information (Hannah and et.al., 2014). This influences
the interpretation capabilities of the individual at the work place. If people are having
positive perception about their work, then they will be able to do the work more easily.
But a negative perception about the work will make them demotivated at the workplace
(Anandarajan, Anandarajan and Srinivasan, 2012).
Race and culture: This is the factor that always exert a significant influence over the
workplace as it defines the cultural traits which are incorporated and defined as per the
perceived traits.
Attribution: This is the aspect which is influenced by observing the behaviour of others
and following by determining the cause based on the individual personality or situation.
Attribution is related to the process through which the individuals will cause behaviour
and events (Bonnici, 2011).
Attitude: It is the trait that is present within the individual as a tendency to respond
favourable and unfavourable to a certain objects, person and situations. If a person has
positive attitude towards his work and other people, then it may cause impact on the
work. In against of this, if a person has negative attitude for everyone then it will affect
its duties and responsibilities (Boons and Lüdeke-Freund, 2013).
Gender: This is the major factor that influences the individual behaviour at the
workplace. An organization encourages the work efficacy of the both genders to attain
the goals in an effective manner. If the company is making discrimination in the people
for their gender, then it will make impact on their responsibilities and attitude towards the
work (Cai and Yang, 2014). Caris Bay Hotel must have to take care about this, as it will
help in supporting the organisational activities.
