INTRODUCTION
Innovation can be defined as the development as well as application of ideas that help in
improving the existing products and services of the company. The hospitality industry comprises
of different categories of fields such as travel, accommodation, event planning, lodging, theme
parks as well as transportation. the hospitality industry of any nation contributes to the overall
development of an economy (Amabile and et.al., 2018). organization chosen for this report is
Marriott International, which is a leading hospitality company that was founded in the year 1927
by J.W. Willard and his wife Alice Marriott. The company is focused on providing its guests
with a pleasant and memorable experience. The report provides an explanation about an
innovative idea and how would the organization benefit from it. It also includes different theories
of innovation as well as idea generation that can help in the development of new idea. A critical
analysis of the product or service along with justified recommendations is also included in the
report.
Background of organization and description of situation
Marriott International is a leading hospitality company that was founded in the year 1927
by J.W. Marriott and Alice Marriott. The company has operations across different geographic
locations and is primarily known for providing its guests with memorable as well as filling
experiences. The company operates nearly 30 brands under its name along with 7000 properties
across the world. Marriott started off as a root beer stand that offered good food as well as
services to the customers. It was in the year 1957 that the company made a shift to the hotel
industry and opened its first hotel. Marriott International considers its employees to be one of its
valuable assets and thus, offers them various training and development opportunities so that they
are able to develop their existing knowledge about the latest trends in the industry as well as
acquire new skills (Damanpour, 2020). This has helped the company in gaining a competitive
advantage against competitors in the market. The preferences as well as needs of the customers
keep on changing and taking this into account, the company has decided to innovate its existing
services and introduce robots in the hotel properties in order to reduce manual labor and provide
the customers with a fresh and innovative experience. The main goal of the company behind this
innovation will be to attract a greater number of guests as well as increasing overall productivity.
