Introduction:
System analysis and design can be defined as a process based on the analysis of
information systems that would be developed for any business system. These systems are being
developed for meeting with the defined scope of the business and a certain set of specific needs.
There are some critical steps that are followed during performing an analysis over the systems
and processes (Dennis, Wixom and Tegarden 2015). The use of system design and processes are
generally being utilized for the purpose of identification of business needs and proposing certain
systems meant to put an influence over the business processes.
In the presently discussed scenario focused over the development of a new system for
Mindy Hair, it can be discussed that the new system would help in structuring the present
business processes. During development of the project, the major responsibilities for the
development approach would be provided to the software engineers and Requirement Analysis
Modeling group who would be developing the systems (Alkhateeb et al. 2017). The basic plan of
the new project is to understand the present system and the areas in which improvements would
be required. Hence, the new system should be made after a primary analysis, designing the future
proposed tasks and develop the new platform. After the development of the system, they would
mainly be helped with understanding the preference of customers and also provide them with
recommendations towards new products.
The following parts of the report would thus discuss the background of the business for
Mindy Hair while also focusing over the challenges faced in the present system. Based on
understanding the present problems, the future prospects of designing of the new system would
be discussed. The research would also focus over the scope and document the different DFDs
based on the workflows for the system. However, the collection of data and information for

presenting the report have been based on secondary research by understanding the use of
information systems to improve present business conditions.
Business Background:
Mindy Hair as a business provides different hair care products and services to their
customers. The current business systems at Mindy Hair helps in supporting customers by making
appointments for customers. Hair specialists would suggest different hair solutions to customers
based on their suitability (Plinta and Krajčovič 2015). The system employs manual methods for
their catalogue services. Each customer is allocated to a specific time period for treatment and
then a hair stylist would be assigned for them. Customers can make their payment through credit
card, cash or debit card and these would be made after they would leave the salon. The business
also provides loyalty services and special discounts to customers in order to gain their attention
for the future.
Challenges faced by Business
The certain challenges that are faced by the business are discussed as:
i. The catalogue service is entirely paper based and thus creates a challenge for the
customers to list products that would be needed by them.
ii. The system of booking appointments is based on SMS systems, which requires
staff to previously require phoning to customers in order to book appointments
based on their confirmation.
These challenges can be considered as critical as the entire process is based on handling a
manual system (Onsongo and Muturi 2015). Hence, challenges are focused over maintaining

consistency in maintaining the appropriateness of maintaining customer information and
assigning them with appointments.
Major Problems for the Business
The three major kind of business problems faced by Mindy Hair are discussed as:
i. The process of booking for an appointment is based on making phone calls to the
officials who would then select a date for the customer.
ii. The system of making payments to staff is based on a manual process based on
information gathered within the system (Chen 2015). However, any kind of
wrong calculation could lead to negative impacts towards deduction in salary for
the staff.
iii. The catalogue provided by the salon is paper-based and customer would have to
come to the store for selecting the service (Klievink, Bharosa and Tan 2016). This
system is time-consuming as customers would need to come to the salon, choose
their selected service, book dates for appointment and thus confirm their booking.
Some of the recent opportunities that could be proposed for Mindy Hair is the
introduction of an online information system, which would handle the business systems and
functionality (Gureva et al. 2016). Based on implementing the business solution, the company
would be helped by maintaining an online catalogue of their provided services, helping
customers to choose their particular consultant, better management of the booking for an
appointment and paying off to their staff.
