CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE REVIEW
Literature review depicts the understanding of current research on particular topic
before carrying out a new investigation. The sources which are covered in literature review are
books, websites, journal articles and government reports. It generally provides a summary,
description and evaluation of sources. Through conducting literature review, researcher can
identify what research has already done and what is unknown within topic.
What is the concept of training and development?
According to Roberts (2018), training and development is an activity which helps in
improving employee performance by enhancing their ability to perform through learning. It is
an educational activity that is created to increase the knowledge and skills of staff while
providing instruction and information on how to perform better in specific task. The main role
of training and development is to provide orientation, assign appropriate training, improving
organisational process, evaluating performance and handling succession planning. There are
five stages of training and development such as assess, motivate, design, deliver and evaluate.
Training and development mainly allows staff to increase productivity, acquire new skills,
sharpen existing employees and perform better. It helps in enhancing staff performance, reduce
employee turnover, boost employee productivity and improve the culture of company.
Training and development helps in enhancing the capabilities, skills and knowledge of
employees for particular job position (Brandi and Iannone, 2017). The few skills of training and
development programs for staff are customer service, human relations, safety and health
compliance, work ethics, computer and software skills and communication. Training and
development generally help Savoy Hotel to keep pace with changes in industry. Hotel generally
needs to develop continuously due to which training and development is important for

Training and development lowers the turnover of staff by making them learn new skills and
gain knowledge. Hotel Savoy mainly focuses on investing in training and development in order
to reduce employee turnover. It also creates scope for internal promotions as hiring new talent
is expensive affair.
Examine the challenges faced by organization while providing training?
As per the viewpoint of Nafukho (2017), there are various challenges which are faced
by organisation while providing training such as Understanding needs and requirements of each
employee, evaluating areas employees lack, engaging learners during training sessions,
maintaining consistent training programs and increasing cost of training. Through these
challenges the performance and productivity of hotel can influenced.
Understanding needs and requirements of each employee is one of the challenges
which are faced by hotel while providing training and development opportunity to employees. It
is important for hotel to focus on understanding the need and requirement of each staff so that
they can provide training and development session accordingly (Chukwu, 2016). Through
understanding the need and expectation of staff, Savoy hotel can encourage and boost the
morale of employees due to which they participate in training session effectively and learn
something new.
Engaging learners during session is also a challenge which is faced by training
manager while providing training and development opportunity to staff. The training instructor
of Savoy Hotel must ensure that their employees must have active participation in learning
session in order to improve their skills and knowledge. Training and development program will
be successful when each and every employee have active participation and learn something new
in sessions.
Maintaining consistent training programs is another challenge which is faced by
hotel while offering training and development opportunity to staff. Savoy Hotel must ensure
that their employees must get training and development opportunity on regular basis for
increasing their knowledge, competencies, abilities and skills. Through maintaining consistent
training program, employees can contribute their productive outcome and also make their
customer happy by fulfilling their need and expectation.

and development on employees and hotel such as improves the capability of employees,
increases skills and knowledge of employees and improves level of performance and
productivity.
Improves the capability of employees is one of the impact of training and
development. Through providing training and development opportunity to staff, the capability
of employees increases due to which they work with efficiently and give better results. The
training instructor of Savoy Hotel focuses on the development of employees due to which their
capability increases.
Increases skills and knowledge is also an impact of training and development as it
helps in enhancing the knowledge of employees due to which they can learn new things in
effective and efficient manner (Goldstein and Michaels, 2021). In order to increase the skills
and knowledge of employees, Savoy Hotel organise training program on continue basis.

CHAPTER 3: RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
It is that part of the research section which is used to collect, analyse and interpret the
information. The main focus of this part is to achieve the aim and objective in more effective
and efficient manner. This is a systematic process which uses appropriate method to obtain the
data and result. There are two type of research methodology: Quantitative and qualitative.
When the information is in the form of numeric then that methodology is known as Quantitative
and when it is in the words then it is qualitative. Quantitative methodology express the
information in number or statistics and qualitative express it i the form of emotions and felling.
In the present research report, researcher will select Quantitative methodology to conduct the
investigation (Kumar, 2018).
Research philosophy: This part is a set of belief that is applied by the researcher to
obtain data. Ontology, epistemology and axiology are three types of philosophy. In this
investigator has selected epistemology research. It is further divided into three part that is :
positivism, realism and Interpretivism. Positivism is chosen by the research because it uses
scientific methods to evaluate and measure the numeric data. As the information is in the form
of quantity and will take less time for measurement.
Research Approach: It is that approach which is used to analyse the information in
more appropriate manner. Inductive and deductive are the two approach for evaluating the
information. Deductive approach is chosen when data is in the form of numbers and Inductive
is used when the data is of qualitative nature. In the current research report the researcher has
chosen Deductive approach because the information is collected for vast respondent in the
form of numbers and the result that is to be get is based on the factual numbers that is gathered
while collecting data (Snyder, 2019).
Research strategy: There are so many ways through which data can be obtained, some
of them are: case study, survey, action research, literature review, experimental and many more.
As per the need of present investigation the researcher has chosen the survey strategy to collect
data. Survey will help in gathering the quantitative data for larger number of respondent in very

As per the need of present investigation the researcher has chosen the survey strategy to collect
data. Survey will help in gathering the quantitative data for larger number of respondent in very
short time period. There is also one advantage of this strategy that using this is less expensive
and can be help in reaching out different geographical location at single time.
Research choice: There are three choices to select the type of information. Mono
method, mixed method and Multi method. Mono method is used when only single type of data
is to be gathered either quantitative or qualitative. Mixed is used when both type of data is to be
obtained and Multi method is used when both type of data is collected multiple time. In the
current investigation Mono method is selected by the researcher as information is of
Quantitative nature (Bairagi and Munot, 2019).
Time horizon: this is used to obtain the time frame at which research can be completed.
There are two ways that can be decided for time that is Cross sectional and Longitudinal. Cross
sectional is used when the research is completed for single point of time and longitudinal is
used when the investigation is information can be used for longer time. In the current report the
investigator is selected Cross sectional time horizon because the data is used for shorter time
and will also help in getting information in less time.
Ethical consideration: while conducting the research and collecting the data there are
some ethics, norms and morale that are followed by the researcher so that transparency can be
maintained. This will help in bring the authenticity in the study. Some of ethics that need to be
followed are culture, trust, fair practice, not harming any feelings, loyal and many more
(Novikov and Novikov, 2019).
Data collection: It is the method that is used to gather the accurate data for the
investigation. There are two sources through which data can be obtained: primary source and
secondary source. Primary sources are used when the information is collected for the first time
and is no used by any one before. Secondary source of data collection is sleeted when the
researcher wants to get the second hand information that is used multiple times for the topic
chosen. In the current investigation primary sources of data collection is selected by the
investigator to gather the data. In primary source the research instrument that is used by the
investigator is filling up of Questionnaire so that first-hand information can be obtained for the

CHAPTER 5: DISCUSSION
Training and development refers to educational activities within a company created to
improve the knowledge and skills of employees while providing information and instructions to
perform specific tasks better(Rezaei and Beyerlein, 2018).Training is a short-term reaction
process for employees and processes, and development is a continuous, proactive process for
managers. Employee training is the development of additional skills and overall personality
during development. For organisations, making their training programs more effective is a top
priority when allocating training resources. This is not surprising as both managers and learners
benefit from training that saves time and money in keeping all learning promises.Training
effects employee`s job performance positively (Jehanzeb and Mohanty, 2018). Training is a
motivational factor which enhances the knowledge of the employee towards the job by which
employees become proficient in their jobs and they become able to give better results.
REFLECTION ON RESEARCH PROCESS
I am really grateful to get this opportunity to conduct the research on the topic of
training and development along with its impact over employee performance. This research has
helped me in gaining in-depth information related with measures of training and development
adopted by the organisation for the purpose of managing organisational functions. There were
various methods used in the current research so that to execute the process and to gather data on
the topic of training and development. In the context of primary research I have used
questionnaire and in terms of secondary information I used books, journals and various articles.
