WORKING WITH AND LEADING PEOPLE
Introduction
Functioning within an organization requires a large number of processes that are included as well
as integrated within the stature of functioning of an organization. Therefore, these should be paid
proper attention in order to develop the functioning in the organization as well as improve on the
same as the time passes by. One of the important processes of functioning in an organization is
the recruitment and the selection process. The recruitment process includes a number of areas
that has been duly mentioned and assessed in this report in terms of Purple Mail Company a
courier firm in UK. However, the management as well as the leadership in an organization also
holds an important stature in order to make it sure that the organization flourishes with thorough
monitoring of the employee and the managerial performances. However, the difference between
the leadership and management is drawn within the report with special reference to Purple Mail
Company.
Task 1
LO1: Be able to use recruitment, selection and retention procedures
1.1 Preparation of the documentation towards the recruitment and the
selection process stating the documents that is required during recruitment of
a new staff for Purple Mail Company
The recruitment process in Purple Mail Company holds greater significance as the staffs in the
organization has to go through a number of processes or stages in order to get selected in the
organization. The Purple Mail Company being a courier service organization is one that is
requires a large number of members both in the back office works as well as in the roles of
distribution and delivery of the packages. Besides, the employees in the organization should hold
skills and knowledge that are appropriate to the working process in a courier organization
(Nahavandi, 2016).
The recruitment process in Purple Mail Company includes two rounds that involve fulfilment of
different criteria to work in the company. The first round looks for the knowledge as possessed
by the candidate on the functioning of a courier system through answering of several questions.

WORKING WITH AND LEADING PEOPLE
Besides, the general knowledge of the employees is also found looked for in the first round that
involves answering a few descriptive and a few multiple choice questions. On qualifying the first
round that second one is opted and this consists of a session of interview with the Human
Resource manager of the company. Therefore, this is the last and the qualifying round that the
candidates have to pass in order to get recruited in Purple Mail Company. The candidates must
be accompanied with their certificates in the last appeared examination along with the experience
certificate in case he or she holds an experience of working in any other courier company.
1.2 Assessing the impacts of regulatory, legal and ethical considerations to the
recruitment and the selection process for Purple Mail Company
Any step of functioning in any organization needs to consider the regulatory as well as the legal
considerations in order to perform the functioning that is meant to be appropriate from all
aspects. The ethical considerations that Purple Mail Company should consider during the process
of recruitment are to maintain the functioning through consideration of the rules and legal
regulations related to the recruitment process in UK. The legal regulations for recruitment in
United Kingdom mainly consist of the Equality Act of 2010. It considers the functioning
procedure in an organization so that there is provision of equality among the members. Besides,
discrimination of the employees in terms of different traits such as gender, sex, disability, etc has
been paid stress under these acts. There are a bunch of laws under the Equality Act of 2010 that
includes Equal Pay Act, The Race Relations Act, The Employment Equality Act that describes
the functioning equality in terms of religion or belief, sexual orientation and age (Carek et al.
2015). Incorporation of such legal stature in the organization would impact on their improved
functioning in the organization that would develop the work force in the organization. Therefore,
the discrimination will also help in keeping away with the grudges of the employees that may
arise from unethical functioning.
1.4 Evaluation of own contribution as the HR manager in Purple Mail
Company
Being the HR manager in Purple Mail Company it is my duty to conduct an efficient and an
appropriate process of recruitment of the staffs in the present condition. A large number of staffs
have already left the organization and recruitment in the first step that should be taken to restore

the conditions in the organization. Besides, I have also been engaged myself in the procedure of
interview as the HR manager in the organization. Therefore, the greatest value of functioning in
the present post is to conduct the process of recruitment through selection of the capable
personals in the organization adding to the facility of induction to the new members. In addition
to this, the existing employees in the organization are also to be put through the induction
process in order to improve the functioning of Purple Mail Company (Goetsch and Davis, 2014).
Therefore, it is my duty to complete the management processes in the organization successfully
to improve the conditions of functioning in the organization.
LO2: Understand the styles and impact of leadership
2.1 Explaining the attributes and the skills required for executing leadership
Leadership is an important factor in an organization that is highly implacable on the success or
failure of a company. Therefore, leaders are to be chosen wisely in order to make the functioning
easier to complete both the team members that would account for better performance of the
organization as one which will ultimately reflect in enhanced revenue generation of the
company. However, certain important features are required to be present within a leader in order
to lead the teams as well as the functioning in a company in order to achieve the goals and the
objectives of the organization.
As stated by Johnston and Marshall (2016) the features of a leader should display the following
skills in order to lead the teams and its members through the path of success. The most important
skill a leader should possess is to have a good communication capability. The leaders in an
organization are usually considered as a middle man who would employ himself or herself to
convey the messages and information from the employees or the workers to the core authority of
the organization. Besides, it is also the key role of the leaders to covey the company decisions to
the employees in order to engage them in the process of development. On the other hand, the
leaders should possess the nature of communicating the messages to the employees that would
help them to motivate to deliver better services. As opined by Costa et al. 2014, the credibility of
a leader should show positivity towards any task that would help in demonstrating their
responsibilities towards the organization as a whole. The trustworthiness of a leader is the most
important attribution to the improvement of functioning in any organization.

2.2 Explaining the difference between the leadership and management
The leadership and the management in terms of maintaining the functioning in an organization
are often put into confusion by deeming the two to be the same. However, there are certain
prominent differences between the functioning of a manager and that of a leader. The first
prominent difference is that the leaders are the persons that have members to follow them. This
signifies the fact that they are the ones who are liable to be followed by a group of people in
terms of ideologies while the managers are the ones who have people who work for them
(Galegher et al. 2014). Furthermore, it is a fact that states that the leaders are the ones who are
likely to provide the visions to the team members to complete certain functioning that have been
set for the team members. Leaders are also responsible for provision of new direction to the team
members and thus act as a spearhead to the members. While in the contrary it should be
understood that a manager is the one who is engaged with controlling or directing a group of
people that are working under him or her. Management is an aspect that directs or controls the
people or resources within a group in accordance with the principles and the values that the
organization has established to complete the processes of functioning to reach certain goals.
2.3 Comparison of different leadership styles providing examples of different
situations
Leadership styles are many and a leader should focus on any one of them or a combination of
two or more leadership styles in order to establish a fluent functioning in an organization. This
part has focused on explanation of the differences that lies between different leadership styles in
a business organization.
As averred by Fidalgo-Blanco et al. (2015) the most common leadership style that has been into
usage from the primitive time period is the autocratic leadership style. This kind of leadership
style is boss centred where the decisions of the leader or the boss is taken as permanent in the
organization. For example, the decision making process when solely placed into the hands of the
leaders are likely to demonstrate an autocratic leadership. In contrary to this, democratic
leadership style is one that considers the contributions of the subordinates in the decision making
process in order to continue with the process of functioning in an organization (Mertens, 2014).
This is usually found in organizations where the system exhibits competence, courage,

innovation, creativity, fairness and honesty within the organizational stature. Strategic
leadership, on the other hand, describes the kind of leadership where the leader is the
organizational head as well as contributes to catering of the role of head at all levels of
functioning.
Therefore, each of the leadership style is likely to provide certain facilities to an organization that
reflects the motivation skills of the employees in the organization.
2.4 Explanation of the ways to motivate staffs to achieve the objectives in the
chosen scenario
The main objective of the organization is to build up a courier system that is convenient to send
mails at different areas under their conveyance site. However, the present situation in the
organization Purple Mail Company is highly vulnerable. Therefore, it is incapable of provision
of such convenient services to the customers that will be an enhanced service to provide on time
performances. Therefore, it has been assessed by the new HR manager of the company that there
is lack of motivation among the members in the organization. This includes the employees,
leaders and the managers in the organization. Hence, the decision has been made by the leaders
and managers in the organization those new methods of motivating the workers or the employees
to enhance their performance levels. As a result, the employees will be engaged highly in the
organization which will enhance their level of efficiency (Claus Wehner et al. 2015). The
methods that were accepted by the managers are to provide promotion of employees to new
levels of functioning. Besides, provision of special leaves to the employees have also been
planned to be integrated in the leadership management of Purple Mail Company. These aspects
of leadership have been suggested to be effective for the company.
