This report discusses the importance of effective communication, teamwork, remote working and support structures in organizations. It highlights workplace challenges faced by Century LTD and provides real-life examples from popular fashion retailers in UAE such as Apparel Group and Max Fashion. The report also emphasizes the role of HR departments in protecting employee rights and suggests a combination of democratic and transformational leadership style to enhance staff performance and remote working.

Executive Summary
This current report highlights the workplace challenges and the best practices to overcome such
issues. It has been received that Century LTD has been facing issues due to high turnover and
poor management of the employees. On the other hand, Apparel Group and Max Fashion have
effective practices to improve the employee management process. It has been found that the HR
department has a great responsibility to protect the employee right in an organization. It has been
addressed that by using effective communication the HR managers are able to identify the
challenges of the employees. In order to enhance the staff performance and the remote working
combination of democratic and transformational leadership style will be effective.

Introduction
People management is an important part of an organization as the growth of an
organization depends on the performance of the employees. If the people fail to perform in an
organization and they are not managed properly then the organization may face challenges in the
global market (Hargie 2016). From the given scenario, it has been received that the managers of
Century Ltd have been facing problems due to their staffs. However, the increased level of
absenteeism, poor morale, high turnover of staffs and drop in sales are the major issues that are
occurred due to the poor staff management. This study deals with the communication practice,
teamwork and remote working to understand the best practices in an organization.
Report Section A-Communication Practice
Analysis of the benefits of effective communication (AC 1.1)
Effective communication is crucial for an organization to maximize the staff performance
and bind the employees together. As per the given scenario, the managers of Century Ltd are
failed to establish an effective communication with their staffs, which created staffing issues.
Hence, effective communication practice builds the team and increases the employee loyalty
(Martin and Nakayama 2015). Therefore, effective communication makes the things clear. As for
example, Max Fashion is a fashion retailer of UAE. This organization follows a weekly based
conference to increase the communication with the employees. Such communication technique is
effective for this organization to share the managerial viewpoints and to obtain feedback from
the employees through the discussion. In the context of Century Ltd, the managers need to use
effective verbal communication to reduce their employee turnover and deal with the staffing

issue. Therefore, by using effective communication this organization will be able to deal with the
staff problems and maximize their performance, which will also increase their sales revenue
generation.
Policies and procedures, which are used to maximize the communication (AC 5.1)
In order to maximize the communication in the workplace, it is important for the
managers to introduce some major policies and practices in an organization. As for example,
Apparel Group is a popular fashion retailer of UAE, which focuses on the internal
communication policy and BYOD policy to maximize the internal communication with the
staffs. However, through using internal communication policy they collect feedback from the
staffs and understand their issues regarding the job. Therefore, BYOD policy or Bring Your Own
Device policy includes software and apps, which are compatible with Apple and Android
operating system. This system allows the managers and their employees to get the freedom to
communicate through the devices which makes them more comfortable (Appareluae.com 2018).
Max Fashion is another retailer in UAE, which follows a regular meeting with the teams and the
individuals. This practice is effective to understand the progress of work and to identify the area
of improvements (Maxfashion.com 2018). In the context of Century Ltd, use of BYOD policy
and conduction of regular meeting with the individuals and the team will be effective to
maximize the communication in the workplace. However, compliance with the internal
communication policy and measuring the staff feedback through discussion are effective to
enhance the communication practice in the workplace.

Outline of the legislation related to communication within the organizations (AC 1.3) and
its effect on the people within the organizations (AC 1.5)
According to the Data Protection Act, the personal information of the employees should
be confidential within the workplace (Young 2014). On the other hand, the information that is
shared among the employees, customers, and managers should be protected. UAE government
has introduced Employee Monitoring Law. According to this law, the employers can monitor
their employees but they cannot share the personal data of the employees without their
permission. Therefore, the organizations need to follow the Federal Law regarding the
information technology Crime 2012 (Tripathy 2018). This keeps the information secret in
organizations. Both Max Fashion and Apparel Group follow need to follow this legislation to
confidential their information during the communication. Therefore, noncompliance with these
laws may create a legal obligation for the employers and the staffs in this organization. They can
be forced to change their operating process in these organizations. Therefore, Century Ltd has
been facing staffing issues and poor communication. By following these Acts the managers of
this organization can improve the communication level with the staffs.
Evaluation of the way through which the organizational structures impacts on the
communication methods (AC 1.4) with the example (AC 5.1)
Organizational structure leaves a great impact on the internal communication process. It
has been received that highly stratified organizations focus on the formal communication
methods to improve the relationship between the managers and the employees (Quirke 2017). On
the other hand, some organizations which follow falter organizational structure use informal
methods to keep the communication continuous. In the context of Apparel Group, they follow a
flatter organizational structure. By using this structure they use the informal communication

method to improve the communication level between the employees and the managers. They
collect feedback by using informal communication method. They talk with individuals besides
conducting team meeting. The Flatter organizational structure makes the communication way
easy between the hierarchy and the employees as this structure is simple and less bureaucratic.
As a result, the employee can reach to the hierarchy easily and share their concerns. In the
context of Century Ltd. development of the flatter organizational structure will be effective for
them to reduce the poor communication and staffing issue as the staffs can contact to the
hierarchy and express their work related challenges.
Section B-Teamwork
Assessment of Benefit of Teamwork (AC 2.1) to both organizations and the staffs are these
benefits apparent in the organizations (AC 5.1)
Teamwork is crucial for every organization to maximize the performance of both
organizations and the staffs. In the context of employees, teamwork fosters creativity and
learning (Tripathy 2018). However, employees can work together as a team, which boosts their
knowledge and improve the existing skill. They can generate creative thinking and learn things
from other co-workers. This helps the employees to develop them personally and professionally.
On the other hand, teamwork enhances the overall performance of an organization. Any team
works based on the common goals. Hence, each team members work collaboratively, share
knowledge to achieve the organizational goal. Therefore, an individual can take the risk during
the teamwork, which maximizes the productivity of the organization (Weaver 2018). Teamwork
helps to resolve the conflicts and enhance the performance of the organization. In the context of
Apparel Group, it has been found that they focus on the teamwork, which leads this organization

to incorporate creativity in their work. Apparel Group is a fashion retailer, which needs to meet
the changing behavior of the consumers. Hence, by building teamwork they are able to
manufacture the unique product by taking creative ideas from the team members. The staffs of
this organization are able to share their knowledge while working as a team. This increases the
growth as well as the sales revenue of this organization.
Analysis of the reasons for which the team might fail to meet their objectives (AC 2.1) give
examples (AC 5.1)
One of the major reasons of the failure of teamwork is the lack of defined goal. Often the
team members do not understand the team objectives. This may hamper the success of the
teamwork. Therefore, often the strengths and weaknesses of the team members are not taken into
account (Frykman et al. 2017). This is another reason of failure of the teamwork. High employee
turnover hampers the success of the teamwork. In the context of Century LTD they are facing
high employee turnover. This might be occurred due to their poor teamwork. Poor dynamic is
another reason of poor teamwork. The team members need to interact with each other in a
productive way. Lack of this the effectiveness of the teamwork cannot be measured. However,
poor dynamic creates mistrust among the team members as a result; they fail to achieve the
business goal. On the other hand, the team members are failed to meet the team objectives if
their roles are not defined properly. It is important for the team members to understand their
roles and responsibilities to maximize the performance. Therefore, poor leadership is another
reason, which resists the team members to meet the organizational objectives. For example, Max
Fashion has faced issues in their teamwork due to the poor dynamic. There is a conflict between
the employees regarding the business project, which hampers the teamwork in this organization.

Evaluation of the effect of leadership style on teamwork (AC 2.3) with example (AC 5.1)
Leadership leaves a big impact on the teamwork in an organization. However, the success
of a team depends on the accountability and effectiveness of the leader. If a leader is not able to
guide the team members and to share the vision then it is difficult for the team to gain success
(Nguyen et al. 2017). Therefore, if the leader is less optimistic then the organization can suffer
from the delusion of grandeur. An effective leader is able to keep a balance between their ideas
and the employee viewpoints. For example, Apparel Group follows the transformational
leadership style.
A transformational leader is able to motivate the followers and to take a difficult decision
during the organizational crisis. By following this leadership style the team leader of the Apparel
Group is able to motivate the team members, which increase the accountability of the employees.
Transformational leadership style allows the team leader to take risk and decision during the
difficult situation (Lyubovnikova et al. 2017). Apparel group is a fashion retailer thus they have
to improve their product based on the changing behavior of the customers. Hence,
transformational leadership allows this organization to make the team members proactive by
motivating them. In the context of Century Ltd., they can follow the transformational leadership
style, which will help them to reduce staff conflicts and employee turnover by motivating the
employees.

Section C-Remote working
Explanation of the different ways in which individuals work remotely (AC 3.1)
Remote work refers to the working style, which enables the professionals to work outside
of a traditional office environment. Based on the concept of the remote working it can be said
that the effective professionals do not need a specific place for their work (Buergelt et al. 2017).
One of the major ways of remote working is the work from home. Often the organizations allow
the employees to do their work from home. This reduces the absenteeism from the workplace. As
per the given scenario, Century Ltd has been facing problem due to increased absenteeism in
their workplace. By applying remote working they can deal with this issue. Often the office
provides the weekend option to the employees to work remotely.
The employees choose any weekend to work remotely. This increases the productivity of
an organization. Telecommunication is another way through which the employees are able to
carry out their remote working. For example, the marketing team uses this way to work remotely
(Wunungmurra et al. 2017). They contact the clients through phone and they do not need to work
from the office premises. Many professionals rely on the co-working space to carry out remote
working. However, the co-working space is a half-way of the traditional working environment
and the remote working. This way allows the professionals to work collaboratively by using
technology and a large network. This technology and network interconnect the employees.

Evaluation of the common working practices that are used in remote working (AC 3.2)
In order to carry a successful remote working, the employees follow different practices.
One of the major practices of the remote working is the use of effective communication
(Downey et al. 2015). The remote workers need to work from the outside of the office. Thus they
need to communicate continuously with the leaders and the hierarchy regarding their work.
Therefore, the remote workers are involved in marketing activity. Hence, they need to be more
flexible in any working environment. On the other hand, the remote workers have the
opportunity to work from home (Wunungmurra et al. 2017). In order to do this, they need to
ensure their accountability, ample energy, and attention. To carry out a remote work the
employers follow constant information sharing process via technology. Therefore, they try to
identify the company needs based on which they can proceed in their work.
Explanation of the leadership style, which is used in remote working (AC 3.3) with the
example of the organization
Different leadership styles are associated with different types of work. To carry out a
remote working democratic leadership style is effective as it empowers the employees to do their
work effectively (White 2018). In the context of Apparel Group, the marketing executives work
under the democratic leader. The democratic leader shares the responsibilities with the
employees while taking any business related decision. For the remote workers, it is essential to
involve in the business decision-making process as they work outside from the organization.
Such leadership style allows the employers to empower the employees and to involve them in the
decision-making process (Price 2007). In Apparel Group the marketing executives are able to
share their own ideas to improve the brand image by following the instruction of the democratic
leader.

Section D- Support Structures
Explanation of the way through which the HR departments can support to the individuals
in a workplace (AC 4.1)
HR department is responsible to protect the employee benefits in an organization. The Hr
department identifies the issues and challenges of the employees such as compensation issue,
low salary, employee right, and workload. The HR communicates with the employees
individually and supports them by meeting their needs (Albrecht et al. 2015). The HR protects
the benefits of employees and employer. The Hr department acts as the media between the
employees and employer. The challenges and concerns of the employees are delivered to the
hierarchy via HR.
Policies and procedures to support the individuals in an organization (AC 4.2)
In order to support the employees, HR departments include various policies. Workplace
diversity, anti-discrimination policy, compensation and benefit, labor management relation and
health and safety policies are the major HR policies to keep the human right in the workplace
(Downey et al. 2015). Poor labor management relation is a big issue for any large organization.
The labors are forced to follow the strict rules of management and to take extra workload.
Therefore, inequality, racism hamper the performance and interpersonal relationship between the
employees (Maund 2001). To reduce these issues workplace diversity and anti-discrimination
policies are introduced by the HR department in the business organization.

Practices to support the people in the workplace (AC 4.3, AC 5.1)
HR departments of large organizations follow smart salary and compensation practices to
retain the employees (Yamao and Sekiguchi 2015). Therefore, the HRM department includes a
specific working schedule to make the employees comfortable in an organization. For example,
the Hr department of Apparel Group has introduced both formal and informal recognition
practices based on the performance of the employees. This practice is effective to motivate the
employees and give them financial support. This recognition practice also protects the equal right
of the employees as there is no favoritism and the employees get benefits based on their capacity.
Section E-Recommendations
 In order to improve the staff management in Century LTD, the line managers need to
follow both verbal and non-verbal communication. By collecting feedback from the
employees they can meet the employee's need and to reduce the employee turnover.
 Establishment of the training program will be effective for an organization to improve the
performance of the employees and the sales of an organization.
 Combination of transformational and democratic leadership style will be beneficial to
improve the remote working and enhance the employee engagement in an organization.
 By providing attractive compensation planning and performance appraisal will be
beneficial for Century LTD to retain their employees and reduce the absenteeism from
the workplace.

Conclusion
The entire study reveals the staffing issues and the solutions to mitigate these challenges.
It has been found that Century LTD has been facing challenges due to lack of proper employee
management system. On the other hand, Apparel Group and Max Fashion have best practices to
manage the employees in their organization. To improve the staff management process use of
effective communication is required. Therefore the performance of the employees depends on
the HR practices and the leadership style of an organization.
