SCOPE
This policy applies to: All Careshore childcare services
PURPOSE
The purpose of this
policy is to:
Supports provision of child protection services to young children, children and their
families
POLICY
Mandatory reporters shall report about any child related issues in accordance to the Child Protection Act 1999 to
ensure child safety. The legislative requirement under this Child protection policy requires the clients community
and the workers under the policy:
i. to ensure best interest and welfare of the child;
ii. to ensure intervention to safeguard the child does not exceed beyond the necessary level;
iii. to ensure collaboration, coordination and consultation with the families, agencies, professionals and the
community;
PROCEDURE
Report shall be made mandatorily if a child is suspected to have surffered or is experiencing unacceptable risk
either physical or mental or sexual and may not have any family or parents to safeguard him/her. The report must
inlcude the following details:
i. name of the victim;
ii. name of the parents (in the absene of parents, then name of the guardian or any person undertaking the
responsibility of the child);
iii. address of the child;
iv. address of the parents/guardian / person in charge of the child;
v. nature of risk being experienced by the child i.e, physical/sexual/mental;
vi. cause of such risk;
vii. reason why the child victim is not safeguarded from such risk;
viii. nature of assistance provided to the child victim;
ix. measures taken to safeguard the child;
Legal responsibilities and obligations of the workers:
1. to ensure any child victim is provided with reasonable standard of care;
2. to ensure the child is provided with necessary medical attention and proper treatement is being provided;

3. to ensure prevention of the causes resulting in child abuse by conducting workshops, counseling to
parents or guardians of the children on child care;
4. working in collaboration with kinship and foster carers, the government , community and non-
government service providers.
Legal responbilities and obligations of community:
The government has implemented these policies and laws on child protection from being subjected toany form of
abuses with the sole objective to prevent the child from from significant harm. Mandatory reporting is
fundamental in a child protection system. It is important to raise awreness amongst the public regarding chid
safety and to report about any concerns relating to such safety.
1. Professionals like nurses, doctors, teachers , child care workers who work with children and families can
take assistance from the Child Protection Guide to decide whether a family should be referred for help or
to make a report to ensure child safety;
2. A child protection guide analyses a situation consistently and explains when any partocular concern
meets the criteris when a report is to be made for child safety;
3. It also identifies alternatives to help a family if the concern related to the child is not required to be
reported; It operationalises the Child Potection Act 1999;
4. In the vent of any doubt regarding safety of a child in any family, Child Safety Regional office could be
contacted and a child safety officer may be contacted for the same;
All the workers, care providers and community workers shall be made aware of the process and the procedures
and legal requirements and their obligations relevant to child safety policy.
Breach of policy and procedures
In case of failure to carry out their legal obligations, the outcomes may vary depending on their nature of breach:
1. Additional training may be provided to the workers;
2. They will be subjected to close and constant supervisions;
3. They may be subjected to disciplinary actions;
Record keeping procedures
The supervisors, managers must maintain digital as well as documentary records of all the reported incidents
along with other confidential documents like any confidential record of child abuse allegation, ina secured
manner. The informations regarding the complaints or complainants, victims shall be kept as confidential . The
mandatory reporting process must be subjected to constant surveillance and close monitoring to prevent any
breach of the policya and procedure.
