TASK 1
P1 Purpose and functions of HRM applicable to workforce planning and resourcing an
organisation.
Human resource management enables the organisation to fulfill their needs by managing
all employees working in a particular organisation. Human resource management continuosly
helps organisation by increasing productivity as well as development of working structure. It
performs various functions right from recruiting employees, motivating them as well as
maintaining all people who are performing in organisation. There are some functions of human
resource management and it is explained as below:- Recruitment and selection:- The most important fucntion of human resource
management is staffing which determines recruitment and selection of employees.
Recruitment means to fill all job vacancies by looking for candidates who are qualified
enough for that job by giving advertisements in newspapers, social media and so on.
Selection means determing those candidates who is a right candidate for the job and this

process is done by taking interviews, tests. In context with hotel hilton, they mainly
focused on manpower planning. When hotel followed the process of recruitment, various
people were accepted according to their qualification as well as talent. In hotel industry
there are many job roles so hotel Hilton selected those employees who have a good
knowledge regarding hotel industry job roles. (Armstrong and Taylor, 2020)
Training and development:- When any new employee joins the organisation they are
provided training so that they can work with all tools which are necessray for job due to
which they will lead to development. It is also important to maintain employee relation
and for effective relation in an organisation leadership training is needed. Training and
development enhance skills of employees and develop their passion for achieving goals
of organisation. In context with Hotel hilton, selected candidates are given eight hour
training in which they are given each information about hotel as well as their job roles.
Employee benefits:- It is related to concept of compensation only. As every employee
gets a fixed amount of salary to them but they should get some benefits also other than
their salary. There are two benefits which can be given to employees; voluntary benefits
and compulsory benefits. There are certain employee benefits like paid vacantions,
earned leaves and so on. In context with hotel, various benefits were provided to them
like meals are provided to them when they are on duty, life insurance policies, illness
benefits. (Collings, Wood and Szamosi, 2018)
The purpose of human resource management includes various responsibilities like candidate
selection, organization development, employee relations, career development and so on. In
context with hotel hilton, they continuosly support workers, ensures that customers are satisfied
with them and initiating benefit schemes for employees.
P2 Strengths and weaknesses of different approaches to recruitment and selection.
There are different approaches of recruitment and has certain strengths as well as
weaknesses and it is explained as below:- Direct advertising:- It means to advertise about job vacancies on social media sites,
career sites, job boards and it is considered as the most effective way to find qualified
candidates. It also enhance company's reputation. Through direct advertising, each
information about job can be posted and it reach to more candidates but at the same time

there are many candidates who don't respond for those jobs as there are some people who
don't trust advertisements. (Chelladurai, and Kerwin, 2018) Employee referrals:- It means existing employee can refer some people for job
vacancies. In this process both internal as well as external recruitment is considered. It is
a quick as well as cost effective process and company trust existing employees as they
won't refer candidates who are not suitable for the job. Employee referral has both
strength and weakness like through referring some other candidates high quality
employees can be selected, there is a bonus which is given to them but at the same time
there might be some sort of discrimination being done.
Promotions and transfers:- Promotion means employee is selected for higher position
and salary also increases with their responsibilities. Transfer means people are transferred
to some other branch or different region though they are at same position. When
employee gets promoted in their organisation their image as well as reputation
increasesin a positive way, other staff members feel more motivated as they also work
hard so that they get promotion but it has weakness also like in an organization some
conflict might arise as when a employee gets promoted other employee can feel that they
deserved more for promotions, when external recruitment is done then company prefers
to promote existing employees only rather then new employees. ( Armstrong, 2019)
There are different approaches of selection and they also have some strengths as well as
weakness and it is explained as below:- Online screening:- It means to determine whether candidate is suitable for the job or not
and various tools are used for online screening like tests, questionnaires. Online screening
is effective for selection process in organization because by looking for social profiles on
site, company can determine candidate personality, through online screening there are
hundreds of candidates who apply for job from anywhere so more talented individuals
can be there but it has weaknesses also like candidate can lie easily about everything as
through social media they post something different and they are completely opposite in
their real life.
Interviews:- It refers to the face-to-face conversation between two people where on asks
certain questions and other person answers. There are certain strengths of interview
process like right candidate is selected as no candidate can lie through face-to-face
Document Page
conversation, it is a cost effective process but at the same time it is considered as a
incomplete process as well as the intervieww can also be in stressful position.
M1 Identify and explain the HR functions to fulfill business objectives.
There are various functions of human resource management to fulfill all business objectives.
These are explained as below:- Determine staffing needs:- Human resource management provides efficient staffing as
organization needs certain employees through which they can perform their tasks. There
are various things which are performed by human resource manager like dividing
candidates among different job roles, giving fair salary to employees. In context with
hotel hilton, human resource manager gave fair salary to their employees as well as
benfits and compensation and divided all employees in job roles according to their
qualification, level of knowledge. (Boon, Den Hartog, and Lepak, 2019) Appraisal of performance of employees:- When employees perform in organization they
always want that their performance should get a appraisal and feedback whether they are
performing good or some changes are required. So, human resource manager provide
feedback during their performance so that a effective communication is there between
manager and employee. In context with hotel hilton, all employees who were working in
different job roles whether they are in front office, or is a chef they are given regular
feedback so that they improve their performance.
Training and development:- In every organization training, learning and development
are the most necessary things so human resource manager must ensure that employees are
provided efficeint and effective training so that they can enhance company's productivity
as well as their morale can increase. So, human resource manager of hotel also provided
training aspects to existing as well as new employees so that hotel reputation as well as
image increases in a positive way. (Brewster, Mayrhofer and Farndale, 2018)
M2 Evaluation of strengths and weaknesses approaches to recruitment and selection.
As there are different approaches of recruitment as well as selection process like direct
advertsiing, promotion, employee referrals, interviews, online screening and so on. So, for every
company these approaches can be useful but some may not be useful. In case of hotel hilton,
direct advertising is an essential way of recruiting candidates because hotel was reaching to more
candidates as well as their reputation was enhancing but in case of employee referrals it is not
Document Page
efficient for hotel as every individual don't have good knowledge to work in hotel industry so
when any employee refer a candidate they might not know what qualifications or talents are
required for particular job role.(Boella and Goss-Turner, 2019) When method of interview is
used for selecting candidates then it is beneficial for company also as they can select right
candidates for their hotel which is not possible by online screening. When ways of recruitment
and selection is done by companies they assess its strengths and weakness and which method
will be benficial for them and which will not. So, hotel hilton also used various methods of
recruitment and selection but before using those methods they assessed their strengths and
weakness properly.
D1 Critically evaluate the strength amd weakness of approaches to recruitment and selection.
As there are many strengths and weaknesses of approches which are used in the process
of recruitment and selection so human resource manager chose a particular approach which they
will use for evaluatiing candidates and they make a effective decision regarding that. If a
employee advertise for their job vacancies then they must ensure that only qualified candidates
apply for such jobs so proper details should be mentioned in advertisement for the job role. If
interviews are being taken then quations should be asked related to the job role only so that
candidates can effectively answer all questions because they have knowledge for that particular
job role only. (Cooke, 2018)
TASK 2
P3 Benefits of different HRM practices within an organization for both employer and employee.
For employee:- There are different human resource management practices which is
beneficial for employees like giving rewards for good performance, employee
evaluation, exchange of knowledge, appreciate performers, welcome fresh ideas, give
surprise to employees and so on. In case of rewarding good performance, employee
should be given certain bonuses or rewards so that employees never feel that their
performance is being ignored. Employees should always feel encouraged so that in
future they work in the more efficent way. In context with employee evaluation, all
responsibilities which are necessary for job role should be defined properly to
candidates. Employee evaluation also includes appraising performance of employees
so that and if any improvement is needed or some chnages are required then

continuous feedback must be given to employees. By exchanging knowledge it is
done either by employees or by company itself. When knowledge is shared then it is
very effective for new candidates because through this skills are enhanced as well as
new ideas are being shared. In an organization employee performance should always
be appreciated and when employee does a good performance then manager should not
ignore their performance and should recognise it. (Analoui, 2018)The appreciation
should also be done so that all employees who are working in organization should
take their tasks as a challenge and perform effectively. There are many existing
employees as well as new employees who have certain good and fresh ideas and
manager should welcome those ideas whether it is given by existing employee or new
employees. There are many ways through which ideas can be generated by employees
like group discussions, open house discussions, meetings and everyon eshould be
considered as a part of discussion. So, in case of hotel hilton, employee were
provided may benefits. When employee gives a good performance then they also get
rewards in the form of bonuses. Whether they are chef or they are working in front
office department they are appreciated, their performance is never ignored by human
resource manager.
For employer:- There are different HRM practices which are beneficial for employer
like health and safety, recruitment and retention, good relations. In case of health and
safety HRM practice, employers achieve certain policies and ensure that all employee
are aware of risks that may occur while performing tasks. It is benefical for them
because all steps are effcetively taken with respect to health and safety. Due to this
HRM practice, possibility of accidents are deceased. In case of recruitment and
orientation, it is beneficial because qualified as well as talented candidates are
selected and through effective training they perform efficiently and achieve all
objectives. (Ren, Tang,and Jackson, 2018)

profit and productivity.

executives and HR managers. So, through this they were leading to better productivity as
well as they were working together for generating more profits for organisation.
(Järlström, Saru, and Vanhala, 2018)
M3 Different methods used in HRM practices. 360 degree performance feedback system:- In this system feedback is collected from
seniors, subordinates as well as peers and is considered as the best effective way for
performance feedback. In a team, there are many people and each individual is
responsible for giving correct and positive feedback.
