Marks & Spencer is the chosen organisation for this particularreport. Marks & Spencer is a largest British multinational company ,which deals in high qualityhome products, clothing and luxury food products (Accomazzi and et. al., 2012). Theheadquarter of the company is in the city of Westminster in London. This report contains thestudy about the different characteristics and roles of manager and leaders within the organisation.Their Role in different situation, various theories and models along with their strength andweakness will also be explained in the organisational context. Thus various key approaches ofoperational management and different role of leader and managers in developing the operationsand efficiency will also be discussed in detailed manner.TASK 1P1 The different roles and characteristics of a leader and a manager.Introduction to Organisation Mark & Spencer is a global retail brand which is propounded in the year of 1884 with itspotential headquarters is in London ,UK. The company is good at selling apparels, high qualityhome products and luxury food products. The company has around 979 stores and more than84,000 employees all over the world. As a large business enterprises the operation activities of Marks & Spencer are based onFlat organisational structure in which management has control over all functional departmentsof the organisation (Ahuja, 2017).Meaning of ManagerA manager is a person who manages and directs an organization. They control day-to-dayaffairs of an organization and are responsible towards carrying out the organisational goals andobjectives effectively. In an organisation, manager is responsible for planning , organising,directing, staffing, problem solving and controlling the business activities.Meaning of Leader A leader is a person who encourages and leads a group of people to achieve the goalseffectively and efficiently. They are accountable to provide guidance , motivation, training etc.to there group members so that they can work independently and focused on one direction.1
