INTRODUCTION
Development of Manager includes strategic steps to cultivate required managerial skills
within an individual. It includes different strengths of managers that needs to be increased.
Presented essay will highlight various terminologies related to managerial aspect of hospitality
industry. “THE FEATHERS HOTEL, UK” an international luxurious inn will be selected to
address given tasks in the plan. The study will revolve around different management styles and
its effectiveness in selected industry. It will also describe different communication processes and
barriers related to it. The essay will use SWOT and SMART model to understand different
leadership/managerial qualities. Presented study will show managerial skills within a business
and service context and emphasis on career development plan (Dixon, 2017).

1.1 Management functions and authority in selected industry

Management is a systematic approach to accomplish any task with the help of proper
allocation of resources. It deals with different core functions of organization to align it with
organization's goals and objectives.
Hospitality Industry Management system performs activities like serving the guests,

Autocratic and Democratic Management style. Autocratic style is effective as it delivers quality
and standard services such as For example The Quills, The Courtyard rooms etc. of the hotel.
Democratic style is effective for the organisation as it fulfils personnels' requirements and
demands in terms of motivation, support and inspire participative working behaviour in the hotel
(Stoyanov, 2017).
1.2 Leadership Characteristics
Leaders must have certain qualities to deliver appropriate guidelines and inspiration to
their team members. These qualities/characteristics such as Inter personnel skills, honesty,
Confidence, Values helps a leader to influence employees to achieve desired goals.
Interpersonal skills is emotional intelligence/ soft skills to understand the needs of
employees, inspire them and cultivate confidence within them and deliver specific recognition to
each and everybody within the organization (Smith and Dodds, 2017).
Confidence is the most required quality of manager that portray his/her strong image in
front of their team members/ subordinates. It delivers accuracy and assurance to the decisions
and actions made.

efficient hotel features for different preferences of customers. It has segmented services for
infant children and pets and diversified food and drinks are available based on culture.
Based on “Economic”, the Feather hotel has adequate financial risk assessment, policies
and incorporate with governance, relevant financial audits, protections to stakeholders and long
term commitments to retain them. Like for example economic changes are managed by the
named hotel The feather by renewing the policies and procedures of organisation. (Bolden,

economic downturn.
Motivate by rewarding system: In the above situation employees can be motivated by praising
and rewarding. I will reward employees according to their performance that will develop healthy

objectives. Confidence must be boost among the employees, in such order operational manager
can praise or give applause for better performance of employee in front of everyone can boost
the confidence of individuals and team members and encourage them for doing best of them

The Hierarchy of need by Maslow is one of the best theories of motivation which concern
with needs, satisfactions and motivation of employees. There are five stages of needs:

condition, necessary breaks and reasonable working hours that can improve behaviour of
employees and increase their work performance.
Safety need include personal security, health laws, job security, protection from
accidents, financial security, etc. In the economical weak condition of the company can bring
fear in employee's mind about their job, salary, etc. So my aim is to providing them safe working
condition and most important building a trust and giving them job security that will ensures them
about their work, also giving them secure fixed salary. By this employee feel secure and safe and
it will result in their better work performance and increase productivity (Bolden, 2016).
Psychological needs include social needs and self esteem needs. Social need also called
belongingness and love need that is refer to a sense of valuable and acceptance feel by
employees (Łuczak and Wolniak, 2015). Some employees By building a good relationship with
the employees, I can motivate and encourage them to work better and increase their potential. As
an operation manager, I will make sure that each employee of the hotel have good
communication with one another, I will encourage cooperative teamwork, and present my self as
a kind and accessible manager and promote good work-life balance.
According to the Maslow's theory it is important for manager to build an effective
relation with the team members. It help in motivating employees as well as communication to
achieve task efficiently (Smith and Dodds, 2017). For this I will make decisions to conduct get
together and meeting of team members that will help to know about employees behaviour and
their value.
Recommendation
There should be proper performance management system to monitor performance of
team members and accordingly rewards or awards should be given to them (Hsu, Su and
Tsai, 2015).
Employees should motivate and encouraged to enhance and improve their
communication skills and hotel should set up policies and regulations to take care of
employees need and their satisfaction.

and team can motivated in critical situations.
