Introduction
Management is defined as an activity which includes managing people or operations
within an enterprise. It is also considered as an act of getting thing done through others. In
present scenario, due to increase in competition and continuous changing environment ,
managing the business or activities has become necessary. As an effective management
system drive firm towards accomplishment of objectives and achievement of success.
The objective of report is to understand the concept as well as importance of
management system in context of Hilton Hotel. Project will include the description about the
some management style. It will also have focus on identifying the qualities of an effective
leader.
TASK 1
1.1 Comparing different management styles
A) Defining management
Management is defined as the procedure of controlling the things , operations or
activities of people act workplace. In addition to this process also includes planning,
organising , direct and controlling the business functions. Management also involves the
coordination of activities in order to drive firm towards achievement of business goals or
targets. It consists of interconnected functions of formulating corporate policy and
organizing, planning, controlling, as well as directing a business resource in order to achieve
the desired goals.
B) Comparing the different management styles
Autocratic management style;
Define : The leaders with this type of management style are also recognised as authoritarian
leadership. Autocratic management is defined as is a leadership style in which a leader has
control on their decisions. Leaders or manager with this type of management style believe in
making their own decision which is based on their own ideas and views. These types of
leasers are less interested in seeking advice or suggestion from their subordinates.

Democratic management style:
Define : In this type of management style, leaders allows their subordinates to participate in
decision making process. Democratic management style involves extensive communication
which flows in both directions that is from leaders to subordinates and vice Versa.
Advantages
High level of motivation and job satisfaction in workers.
This management style allows leaders to identify the innovative ideas for resolving
several problems.
It also allows leader to develop as well as maintain creative environment.
Disadvantages
Time consuming
Delay in decision making process
Problems related to accountability.
Laissez Faire management style
Define :Laissez Faire management styles is defined as a leadership styles which is adopted by
the leaders those who have unwillingness to participate in business activities. Managers or
leaders with this type of management style are less interested in influencing people to work
for benefit of an organisation.
Advantages
Subordinates get the chances to show their abilities and improve their performance
within an enterprise.
Employees also get an opportunity to make their significant contribution in deriving
an organisation towards success (Asare and Conger,2018 )
Disadvantages
This management style makes coordination as well as decision making challenging.

Communication skills : this ability are important to be possess by leaders. Communication
is essential to be developed in terms of directing , guiding and motivating people to work for
betterment of an organisation.
Interpersonal skills :This ability includes the way manager or leader communicate with their
subordinates. Interpersonal abilities are required to be developed by human resource manager
in Tesco company. As this will assist human resource manager team in improving their
practices as well as performance within an organisation.
Creativity : Leaders use their imaginations or original ideas for analysing the appropriate

negative influence on behaviour of employees. Due to power culture, there have been
continuous conflicting situation in an organisation which has direct as well as negative effect
in business performance of hotel. In power culture , Employees in a firm were treated badly,
due to which business entity has to face legal obligations and other issues such as high
employee turnover .All these problems have direct impact on the financial stability of an
enterprise and also had negative effect on the production as well as on other routine business
function. The management team in Hilton hotel has taken the high initiatives as well as
adopted the several strategies for improving the culture as well as working environment
within an enterprise. Effective reward system is developed by the human resource manager to
encourages workers for participating in decision making and another business activities
(Edgeman, Bourne,Bititci and Nudurupati, 2017)

strategy which has been made on the basis of maslow needs theory which dictaes that employees at
workplace feel much more moitivatesd when their needs are fulfulfiloled in appropriate manner

The managerial skills aid a person in realising their personal needs and supports in
planning as well as managing all the activities which are necessary for fostering career

clear idea about the path which a person is required to follow. It also assists assist an
individual in to thinking about the ability, knowledge and experience that a person is
