INTRODUCTION
Working with leading people is a process where company guide or improve their
employees’ skills, leadership and management qualities. In this process leadership plays an
important role because with the help of this quality organization manages themselves and the
whole team (Lepsinger, 2010). The present report is based on the Virgin Media; it is a company
which provides all electronics items like mobile phones, computer, television etc. This firm is
famous for their fast customer services and the management skills. It also includes the
recruitment process of a new staff and the legal, regulatory and ethical considerations which are
related to the company internal and external environment. Further, how leadership styles rise the
profit of the firm has been described in this report.
TASK 1
1.1 Documentation to select and recruit a new member of staff
The main work of human resources is to recruit a suitable Peron in the company. Virgin
Media want to recruit new manager, so for this firm use advertisement media (Mendenhall and
Osland, 2012). With the help of this activity they can easily get the suitable person. The
documentation to select a new member explained as below;
Job analysis- In this first step, firm analysis the vacant place in the organization and also
find out which position is vacant. Further the human resources decide which kind of person is
suitable for this post. It also includes the job description and job specification. Job analysis
includes basically six steps which are;
 taking the decision on which method is followed by Virgin Media for collection of
information
 background information of the person
 selecting the position in the firm
 Collection the data of employees like their attitude toward the company, work experience
etc.
 Verify the entire document which is provided by the person. Final and last step developing a job description and job specification.

Recruitment and selection-In this human resources' department describe which method
they are following for the candidate selection (Lev, 2013). In Virgin Media firstly they take the
resume of the person after this HR department checks all the details of the person that it is
suitable for the job or not. As per example for the office manager they need a person whose
communication is good with other people and also having knowledge in IT department. Further
they take a person interview where they check the attitude and personality of the person. When
human resources' department is satisfied with the interview so they persuade the person into
second round which is based on online test. In this company prepare some question which is
based on IT (Bush and Middlewood, 2013). So by this they check the knowledge of the person.
Then finally after the online test company take a decision to take this person or not.
Selection- In this step hiring manager takes all the details of candidate to HR department.
Then company manager describe all the detail of the job like what work they actually do as an
office manager, time duration of the job, salary and all rules and condition which are related to
the job (Schein, 2010).
Performance appraisal- This appraisal is based on the performance of the person toward
company and customization media performance appraisal based on the target.
1.2 Impact of legal, regulatory and ethical considerations to the recruitment and selection process
While recruiting the new staff Virgin Media company follow all the legal and ethics
consideration in the business. These ethics provided by the government for the better
development of the firm. The HR department taking this legal and regulatory very seriously.
Before the selection process they ensure about that the candidate have a clear knowledge about
the rules and policies of the organization. And the main reason behind his is these candidates
show the picture of a company, if they do not properly connect with the customers so it creates
bad images of the company (Wheatley, 2010). As per example it is necessary to show the entire
electronics product to the customers. Employees cannot refuse for this work. And if they do this
so it is against the ethics and rules of the firm. Virgin Media is concern with the legal issue for
this they provide better working environment to their workers and the time of recruitment they
check all the back group of the new candidate. Further, this activity company hires the person.
Before the recruitment all the candidate must have fill these things for the ethics a legal
regulatory and they are; religion, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, age, family status and

place of origin. Always Company considers that the HR department does not select the person as
per their face color, religion, age etc. (Raelin, 2011). They all select the suitable person as per the
knowledge and their positive attitude toward the organization. The firm cannot hire the children
and always check all the residence detail of the employees.
1.3 Conflict and difficult situation faced by the manager during selection process
As a manager off the Virgin Media when I am taking the interview I faced some
problems which are based on IT department questions. All candidates are good enough but they
have lack the practical knowledge of the computers and electronics machine. But finally I chose
the two candidates for the office manager. They both are talented, good communication skills,
positive and attracting personality and the good knowledge to how to deal with customers. But
the post is vacant for one person so I check their human habits and give them one situation which
are related to deal with ground workers (Zhang and Bartol, 2010). So I found that one person is
short tempered and do not know how to manage and deal with this kind of worker. And the other
one is quite good; he politely talks with the workers and try to convince them in their local
language. So finally I choose the second one for the office manager because in business every
day we have to face so many clients which are having different nature. So on that time a manger
should maintain their nature and be polite with others.
1.4 Own contribution to make the selection process more effective and fairer
According to the previous answer as a hiring manager I would change some things in
selection process. Firstly before hiring the candidate I check all the family background of the
person that he/she has any criminal records or not. In online test time I add one practical test
which hare based on the repair of the equipment's (Yang, Huang and Wu, 2011). By this I can
judge that person have any practical knowledge or not. Then finally I check their human nature
toward the difficult condition and how they manage all people in one time. It is very important
because as a manger it is our duty to manage all the company in one time. So these things which
I want to change in selection process.
TASK 2
2.1 Skills and attributes needed for the leadership
Responsive to the groups’ need- leader is not a single person he/she takes all the other
members with them (Kurland, Peretz and Hertz-Lazarowitz, 2010). In Virgin Media company

leader must be responsible toward all the staff members. For the better leadership they have to
give time to all employees, listen their problem which are related to the work environment. Then
provide an appropriate solution on time.
Team building- In organization all people work together so it is necessary for all of them
that they have better understanding for each other. So for this create a team building program
into the organization, provide them work into team so by these employees create a trust on each
other.
Commitment to the staff- Good leader always know that as a single person he/she not
able to do all work. For the better leadership it is important to give opportunities to other team
member, take their suggestion into the work and time to time give them proper training
(Obiwuru, Okwu and Nwankwere, 2011). By this, leader can easily mange all the staff member
and create a positive environment.
Communication- What leader want from their team member it may be clear in their head
bu without a good communication it is not possible that it can be clear in all team member head.
So it is important to create a good communication in their Virgin Media . With the help of this all
team member easily communicate their problems and idea with each other (Oreg and Berson,
2011). And with better communication trust build and company's employees can easily know the
vision and mission of the firm.
Commitment- The good leader must follow their commitments toward the customers and
employees. A person should respect the decision of other person and try to more flexible in their
mind or thoughts. By this they can easily give a good leadership skills to other person.

leadership styles which are explained as follows;
Autocratic- In this style leader of the firm take their all decision and do not take a
suggestion from other team members (Cabrerizo, Heradio and Herrera-Viedma, 2010). All the
employees and staff member follow the instruction which are provided by the leader. In the
organization his style is totally suitable because the leader is experienced Peron and know all the
vision and mission of the company. Further, they have a better knowledge in IT field so their
decision is beneficiary for all the staff members.
Affiliate leadership- In this style the leader create an emotional attachment with the other
members of the organization. It is also good because with the emotional attachment the can
create a trust among the team members and also in difficult time they support each others.
2.4 Ways to motivate staff to achieve objectives
It is very important in the organization to motivate the employees time to time (Galand
Sagi, 2010). By this activity they can easily put their focus on the work and speed up their work.
There are some ways which are explained as follows;
 In organization give a time to employee to advise other people and tell them about the
experience in the Virgin Media company.

 Treat everyone similarly.
 Provide performance appraisal by this, worker motivate and do their work with double
speed.
 Tell the positive point which are related to the work (Anderson and Anderson, 2010).
 Take time to each employees and listen their problem.

enthusiastic.
 Encourage the workers to grow their comfort zone.
 Give them training for the better development.
 Follow the SMART objective in the company.
 Maintain a trustful relation with the workers by this, they can feel comfortable and share
their views on the work.

3.1 Benefits of team working for Virgin Media
There are some benefits for team work in Virgin Media which are explained as follows;
Improved morale- In the company team support each others and provide help in the
work. With this quality raise the morale power among all the employees (Lepsinger, 2010).
Working in a team is a beneficiary for the workers because by this they raise their knowledge
and also feel pride to do help with other workers.
Greater flexibility- Teamwork can help the Virgin Media for more flexible. For this
company take a different people in one team and by this, they create a better understanding
among all of them.
Increased innovation- When all the different people work in one team so they share their
different views and knowledge on one point (Mendenhall and Osland, 2012). By this, quality
company raise the innovation thinking power among them.

Foster creativity and learning- In team, workers do different work with different kind of
nature people. So they raise the standard of creativity and also show the better skills on work.
Build trust- The main positive point of term work is build a trust among all the peoples.
When all workers work together so they all are dependent on each other (Lev, 2013). They help
each other and also encourage all the team time to time. By this quality they build the trust and
also raise the standard of team work.
3.2 What conflict is faces by the leader to do a work in team
When a leader do a work with the team member so they also face some problems like all
the team member feel hesitated to share their views with the head person. Workers only follow
the instruction of the leader so by this they cannot show their creativity (Bush and Middlewood,
2013). Sometimes its good to work with leader because head person having great knowledge in
every field so they can share their views and idea with other person.
3.3 Effectiveness of the team in achieving the goals
The effectiveness of the toward the work is very necessary because only leader cannot do
all the work. They guide all the peoples in their work but team members also put their main
effort in the work. As per example if Virgin Media want to raise their profit so for this all the
employees do work harder. Make a more contract with the customers and also do a good
planning for the new projects (Schein, 2010). By applying this thing company can easily raise
the standard of the organization and also increase their profit. Further, plan a better polices for
the employees' development and time to time evaluate the strength and weakness of the workers.
By this, firm increase the effectiveness of the team.

4.1 Planning the monitoring and assessment of work performance
Assessment of the work help the supervisor to judge the worker on their work and how
they work with the leading peoples. Head person time to time give them different situation and
according to the task they analysis the performance toward the company (Wheatley, 2010). In
this they also judge according to what style is chosen by them and how they communicate with
another team members. There are also some task which hare enplanes as follows;

work. In this activity head person of the team analysis the worker performance and how they
deal with other team members. Leader time to time give them a different task by this, they can
analysis the employees' performance (Zhang and Bartol, 2010).
Ask for an account- In this the leader check the old work of the worker and how they
manage their work properly (Yang, Huang and Wu, 2011). By this, head person analysis the
work management of the worker.
4.2 Plan and deliver the assessment of the development needs for the company
Virgin Media company is good for their customer service and also provide a good working
condition to their workers. But there are some improvement which are needed for the better
development and they are like;
 Improve the communication process in the Virgin Media company by this all the ground
workers can easily share their idea and discuss their problems with high authority
(Kurland, Peretz and Hertz-Lazarowitz, 2010).
 Every day in morning spend 15-20 minutes on work discussion. By this all the work
should be clear in each and every mind so w day they can easily work on it.
 Schedule all the work and divide as per the workers quality.
 Create a training secession for the development of the employees. So they can easily do
their work with the latest technology.
 Provide an appraisal to employees for their better performance.
 Guide the employees on how to create a great and positive relationship with the
customers.
 The most important take a feedback from the workers on their work experience with the
Virgin Media company.
4.3 Evaluate the success of the assessment process
When company provide all the employees better working environment and good salary so
they also give their 100 percentage. By this the productivity and the profit of the verging media

goes high and they can easily beat the competitive business world (Obiwuru, Okwu and
Nwankwere, 2011). Further, by adopting the feedback system from the employees firm can
easily know their drawback and on time they can solve all the issue. With the better
communication process all members share their problem with each other and also give their
suggestion on topic (Oreg and Berson, 2011). More ever, company provides the performance
appraisal to all the workers so they feel enthusiastic and give their best to customers.
CONCLUSION
According to the present report it has been concluded that leadership plays an important
role in the internal environment of the virgin Media company. With the help of right direction
workers can easily do their work and also feel comfortable in the organization. Firm take time to
time feedback from their employees and customers by this, they can easily know about their
drawbacks and they can solve them on time. By applying, different leadership style leaders guide
their employees. One of the best thing which adopt by Virgin Media is everyday they spend their
morning fifteen minutes on work discus tin. By this everyone should clear the work in their mind
and spend their whole day with the positive energy.
